Thailand is a very spiritual place. They live simple lives. The people don't take shit from there government either. Revolutions are common but they are for the most part peaceful and very liberal. There is a party much like the black panther party here. They hate american colonialism and imperialism and do not want americans there because they have seen what american occupation has done to other countries. if you do go take an open mind visit the buddhist temples and embrace everyone with kindness and you will see the beauty of Thailand.

Would you say it was safer in a group than ie. just traveling as a couple?

I'm going late November/mid December: Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand
We are looking for a place relatively close to Bangkok to take some rest from all sightseeing and traveling just for the last few days before we head to the airport. Some beautiful beach with palms and nothing to do but snorkeling... This could be an island too, the less touristy, the better. Any suggestions?
- Try Ko Samet. Very close to BK and OK...
http://www.kosamet.n…clearThoughts - Ko Chang is also OKish... some elephants, but a bit isolated...clearThoughts

Thanks clearThoughts, Ko Chang and Ko Mak were our initial choices and I think it'll be Ko Chang after all...

Been a couple of times and loved it. the locals are great, bangkok smells weird and there are hoards of tailless dogs roaming the street, its not too bad, but i've never stayed there long. love the krabi area with railay west and north beaches and the phi phi islands. there is a cute little beach tucked in between ao nang and raillay called ton sai. there is awesome rock climbing to be had if thats your kind of thing. i've never had a bad experience however a friend of mine got conned into spending a stupid amount of money on diamonds. they were real, but not worth the amount he paid. there are alot of people working for retailers, including travellers, so just remember if a deal sounds too good it probably is. you'll love it... have fun!

You will be fine, just avoid being obnoxious and they won't thai box your face.

What part of Bangkok would you recommend to stay in for the last two days?

Would you care letting us know how much was the flight?
- It's from Ireland, through Cambodia and a few stops in Vietnam, it won't tell you much http://www.ebookers.…raf
- Local flights are cheap enough: http://www.vietnamai… We're paying €250 each for 3 separate hops.raf

The locals are great as mentioned, but they don't look too favorably on tourist who get heavily drunk. For example, my friend had a knife pulled on by his taxi driver during the same time my other friend was pick-pocketed in Gulliver's @ Khao San Rd. So it basically comes down to common sense.
