Been a couple of times and loved it. the locals are great, bangkok smells weird and there are hoards of tailless dogs roaming the street, its not too bad, but i've never stayed there long. love the krabi area with railay west and north beaches and the phi phi islands. there is a cute little beach tucked in between ao nang and raillay called ton sai. there is awesome rock climbing to be had if thats your kind of thing. i've never had a bad experience however a friend of mine got conned into spending a stupid amount of money on diamonds. they were real, but not worth the amount he paid. there are alot of people working for retailers, including travellers, so just remember if a deal sounds too good it probably is. you'll love it... have fun!
