Thailand is a very spiritual place. They live simple lives. The people don't take shit from there government either. Revolutions are common but they are for the most part peaceful and very liberal. There is a party much like the black panther party here. They hate american colonialism and imperialism and do not want americans there because they have seen what american occupation has done to other countries. if you do go take an open mind visit the buddhist temples and embrace everyone with kindness and you will see the beauty of Thailand.
