BP identity change

BP last changed their identity in 2000 when they shortened their name from British Petroleum, carrying the corporate truncation trend, i.e. Federal Express to FedEx etc.
The bigger question, do you think they will change their logo? Would it be too obvious of a move for even the most unassuming consumer?
There has been a great deal of visual damage, contest to redesign the logo showing environmental impact, brown BP logos. This BP logo remix was exacerbated by social media, something that was not present when the Exxon Valdez disaster occured.
Suits are still being held for the Exxon Valdez case. Exxon did not change their logo, but there was not a social media presence at the time.
I feel as if they will have to change it once again, but this will not occur for years to come and they will attempt to pass it off as keeping their identity new, if they and for how long they survive.
Thoughts on whether the logo will change?

Yes. No.

They are not in a position to change it for sometime, regardless.
They spent $7 million on it's design, and $25 million implementing it in 2000, this relaunch mostly catered to the internet era. However, they spent more on their logo in 2000 than they did on renewable energy.
- That represents a 1/4 of day profit for BP. http://thinkprogress…jamble
- I think they are in the position to spend WAY more than that, specially now. 32m is nothing to themMiguex

If they have sense .. they'll split into smaller companies and run anonymously for a while. (Not that I want to see them prosper ..)

BOYCOTT BIG OIL
(just not the bits that make my computer or bring me my microwave dinners.)

sorry to say, our society couldn't continue without the "big oil" a-holes. Unless you live in a log cabin or a cave, everything around you is either made of oil or made with power generated by oil.
ex: 7 gallons of crude in every new car tire.
we've done this to ourselves.
- sucksmoldero
- the problem is the system.moldero
- But what would happen if the oil was gone tomorrow? Society could (and would) deal with it ...lukus_W
- It would deal with it eventually, after an extended period of breakdown.Continuity
