They do look sexy though and the lenses are meant to be amazing.

you still have to be able to see the image yourself though - a leica won't do that for you...

Leica M9 still sucks at night hand held

- My Canon Rebel xTI and my Lumix LX3 can do the same thing.benfal99

do the leicas have in built IS?
- JSK0
Sorry hombre
i didnt understand your question.

Leica does not have built in image stabilization.
It is a basic digital camera. Nothing fancy about it.
With Nikon D700 or Canon 5D MKII, you of course have much better technology in act of shooting but Leica invests more so in their lens.
Two advantage I find (I dont reside size as an issue), lens is much closer to the sensor and more control over how you shoot.
Photo technique wise, Canon is superior. It captures what you couldn't before. Leica does not let you do that. Leica makes you confirm to the equipment and understanding the limitation of the camera it self. Some would argue that this is a negative but I find this to be a positive. It helps me understand cost of frame.
Not a fair comparison but I did a test against Canon 5D MKII with Sigma 50mm 1.4 vs Canon 5D MKII with Leica R 50mm 2.0 vs Leica M9 50mm 1.4 ASPH.
The images were noticeably sharper in both Leica but Leica M9 gave much better performance. I would think that with Canon's superior sensor, 1D would be a better comparison with 50mm 1.4 or even 1.2 L.
These were shot with Canon 5D MKII with 50mm 1.4
It would be hard to get the same shot with Leica hand handle.

One of my coworkers just had a major score at a garage scale last weekend. He found an old M3, probably from the 50s for $5. FIVE DOLLARS. Perfect condition, working lenses and such. He's found them on ebay for upwards of $500. Wish it were me!

^ wow thats amazing. Quite rare that it happens to a camera set like that.
