Interesting thread so far.....
the QBN'ers see more like Guy Bourdain than Irving Penn or Richard Avedon....
- Saw Richard Avedon's show at SOMA... Mind = blown. Love the day to day shots of him with Rob Rauschenberg.nthkl
- Avedon, Penn and Bourdain are the holy trinity of Fashion Photogs....vaxorcist

Interesting....I'm a photographer... and I'd be REALLY happy if designers and AD's started showing work like the above to clients to get them inspired to take photo imaging risks, (not copy these photogs, but be willing to try cool stuff) because sometimes I've had shoots where the AD had shown comps to client with images from iStock and Flickr that had really flat boring light... I was hired based on a few dramatically lit images in my book, but the client got a disconnect at the last moment and asked if we could just tone down the lighting so it looked like the comp....
AAARGH.... so I'm NOT asking AD's to engage in copyright violation and do comps with real images, but to be willing to sell the idea of an assignmetn photographer making stronger images than the usual stock comp layout I see....
We are usually much more photographically more literate than our clients, but we owe it to ourselves to help push them beyond flat boring stock-look.. otherwise why not just use stock...
- Part of the responsibility rests on the AD to comp as closely as they reasonably can to finished look, too, including lighting and other things.Continuity
- ... other things.Continuity
- yes... and I'm learning it's a bit of my job to convince the AD he needs to convince the client....vaxorcist
