did you achieve your most important goals in life? what are/were they? did they change/transform? and what's your bucket-list for the rest of your life?

i've missed making a career because i always wanted to be do with my time what i want and not what others want.
what opened my mind back was a nervous breakdown (!) with suicidal thoughts (omg) when i was 21 after a year working 14 hrs a day. that's long time gone.
every time i took a "real" job in advertising or else i ended up doing all the work while the bosses earned all the respect. it's a hard time for loyal and serious designers out there.
today i can say, downsizing and downspeeding saved me from a lot of things. i achieved most of the things i wanted to do personally and never cared much about becoming a suit.
what i want to do soon is half a year traveling with my wife and my daughter somewhere we can life a hippie live with lots of walking, surfing, cooking and reading.

"did you achieve your most important goals in life?"
Why the past tense? I'm not dead yet.

Def my family. I can't wait to get home. Achieved dream: any given Sunday I can walk into a bookstore, pull out pubs off the shelf and show them exactly what daddy does all week long: it's a strange, weird, good feeling. New dreams in the works? def on the downsizing side of things too. Getting rid of all the worthless "stuff." Also - restoring an old car (with dad/wife/son/and Feb 2011 baby): maybe a '65 ranchero, or a '45 buick

My biggest goal is marriage and a nice house.
- seriously? marriage is a goal? this smells of underachievement and desperation.iCanHasQBN
- I could have been married twice you twatvitamins
- yeah, so what? sounds like you want to get married just so that you can say you're married.iCanHasQBN
- Then I would have been married by now you shit bagvitamins
- its just weird that you think of marriage as a "goal" - while you should think of it as something that just...iCanHasQBN
- ...falls into place naturally.iCanHasQBN
- like if someone asks you "what have you achieved in your life?" are you going to answer "i got married!"??iCanHasQBN
- ...big woop.iCanHasQBN

i thought i was happy until yesterday.
on a whim i was wondering what one of my old cds was up to. he was by far the greatest creative director that i've ever worked for and it still amazes me how much i learned from him in the year and a half we worked together. i think we got along so well because i looked at him and said "jesus, that's me in 10 years" and he would look at me and think "holy shit, that was me 10 years ago". anyways, when we were working together he would constantly get his head bashed in on a daily basis from sales and clients, always be putting out fires and was constantly fighting the good fight. it was a major battle. i come to find out he and his wife moved out to sf and he started his own photography studio and is killin it. his website was awe inspiring, gripping and moving. his work was incredible and i found myself lost in it. he's already got a ton of photos up on all the stock sites and is being hired for large shoots.
it was at that moment that i thought to myself "he's living his dream" and it instantly depressed the shit out of me. it was an epiphany of how unhappy i am with the corporate shit i'm doing. it's such a struggle and i always find myself pissed because the client and sales just don't get it and i'm always forced to dumb my work down or add a giant CTA because "i just don't know where to click" or "what about seo".
my future goals?
i always told myself i'd buy my dad back his 1930 ford model t bucket hot rod. he had to sell it when i was 2 because it was so loud and i'd always cry when he put me in it. i kept track of it up until about 8 years ago. if i can't buy back his i want to buy him one similar and help him restore it.

a couple of years ago I quit the agency biz...and never looked back....
giving up a sense of material entitlement/desire is probably the biggest thing I'm in progress to accomplish....
Photo biz is randomly profitable, but I'm doing what I want to....
It's been 10 years since I traveled like I used to.... want to go back to India or central asia for a year or so.... my GF's Indian, so if we do that, there will be lots of relatives to go visit....
