Anyone use it?
I don't, but I'm considering it. I figure I pay GoDaddy like $4 a month to host my website (which is actually built through iWeb), and for a buck more (about $5/month - $67 for MobileMe on Amazon) I could get the added benefit of cloud syncing between my Mac at home, Mac at work, and my iPhone, plus I could use the Find My iPhone feature if needed.
Any downside to using MobileMe? Pluses or minuses? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I have it. I have used the 2 gigs of space in a pinch but don't really use it. I like the fact that if my phone is ever stolen tho, I can lock it and wipe it. or find where it is tho.

Yeah, that seems like a nice little feature. Do you host a site through it or know if it's possible? I believe it is, I just don't want to go through the trouble of canceling my GoDaddy account only to realize I can't do it on MobileMe.
I always thought MobileMe wasn't really worth it for the price, but if I'm able to host my site on it I can justify the extra buck a month for all those added features.

been using MobileMe for over 5 years on a multiuser family package well worth the £120 a year.

Find My Phone is worth the $ on it's own, it;s saved me more than once, and never losing my contacts / effortlessly syncing with them on new and old devices is pretty rad if you do lose it, or get a new device.
I don't use the storage, email, photos or site it comes with because I already have better versions of each, but it's nice to have em in a pinch.

I was going to get mobile me but my powerbook G4 is literally too old to allow it to work. Same with Netflix. Time to upgrade you think?

If you work on two or more machines, it's a great way to synch address books, mail, bookmarks, etc.
Storage is slow to the point it's worthless.

Awesome, thanks for the input.
Has anyone actually canceled MobileMe? Seems like it's easy to lose tons of valuable info. Do you constantly backup? And is MobileMe mail lost forever if I cancel?
- you could back up the emails if you download them to your machine through an email clientRanger

the syncing services are pretty much the same as what google offers for free.

But with Google you get to keep your files and access right? With MobileMe, the moment you cancel your account, you lose access to all your mail and anything else you haven't backed up. Is that right?
- you could move it to another IMAP account or back it up offlineribit

I've been thinking about getting one too. I like that you can send direct links to files on the ftp, and not provide access to a folder. Also, if you have an airport extreme ( not sure about other routers), you can access the network drive externally.

i use email address (virtually no spam or adverts), sync, and as stated, the find iphone feature pays for itself quickly....

I have an account. Rarely use the email or photo gallery. Love the contact and calendar sync with my work comp, home comp, iPhone, and iPad.
The storage is nice when you need it. I actually prefer DropBox (I never need more than my free 4.5gb)
It is easy to cancel (I had a trial that I cancelled before I had to pay) You do lose everything on the site if you cancel. But I believe your contacts and calendar events stay on the devices you had synced. I do know that your stored files will remain on any computer you had synced to your iDisk.
You can host a site and you can even use your own domain.
Being able to located / lock / wipe and iPhone or iPad is nice too. Not that I've had to yet.

MobileMe is good. I mainly use it to send files.
Dropbox gets filtered on firewall so I hardly use it.
I started to use the calendar more and more because it is wirelessly synced.

coincidentally, went to login to my mobile me account this morning for the first time in ages, and the home page takes me to a 404 with a few options including one of which is a link to "log in".
clicking login just refreshes the 404!

The server space is good but it is pretty slow for hosting anything on. OK for testing and proofing simple sites. There is always a delay before anything starts loading though.

So in terms of hosting a site, it seems like there's more reliability with GoDaddy, right? It'd suck to have a buggy server.
And as for email, I don't think I'd really use the me.com account all that much, but if I did, and even if I backed up to a home computer, it's so nice to just jump onto Gmail and look up something from 5 years ago. I'd be sold on this if Apple made the email part free and charged for the rest of the features. It just seems like losing cloud email at some point defeats the purpose of keeping emails in the cloud to begin with.

I had it for a year and never used it once, haha. The dropbox app is just as good for file storage. I did all my syncing via USB on my iPhone.

I use it - syncs my contacts / email to my 2 computers and phone.
Also love having the idisk to let clients drop files and for me to send large files to printers / clients and not have to deal with weird 3rd party sites that require people to have accounts etc.
