I agree. Multiple levels of drop-downs can be frustrating, especially when they aren't very large. Drop-downs are also good when you have TONS of content areas you are trying to organize. Why hide that stuff when you have so little to show? And why put your information be under "work"? And why have "ongoing?" Isn't that just another level of nav in the way of what people want to get to?
Also, I think your post title treatment could use a little love.
You've got some cool stuff on there though.

Very simple first criticism of it - Ongoing is one word.
I dislike right-sided navigation, but that's more just a difference in taste.

The site. Is it a blog or a portfolio? Either way, why would you put that photo as the main feature? Hold on, I just refreshed the page and it loaded differently. Anyway, I'd click on the menu just to make that photo go away. You're an illustrator, no? Makes more sense to start with the illustrations - which are worth showing off more. I'm getting: Craig Atkinson - Christmas - found a tramp's camera in a bin - put one of the pics up here.

maybe its the photography. has a ":(" feel to it .. you need more there. the drawings are fair but still .. too easy

OK, UK based artist, illustrator, lecturer and publisher. but I'm not getting any of that from the content that's immediately in front of me. Maybe move 'Me' and the stuff below it to the top. Just seems a strange way to introduce your work. It's not even a photo that you took? It's a pretty creepy photo to be sure.
