I'm now a proud but nervous owner. I did something that locked my f-stop to 22. On my old Canon 10D, there was no way that could happen in Manual Mode.
Any advice would be appreciated.

I tried clearing all camera settings but that didn't work.

Update the firmware.

the ___ setting lets you use the wheel - if you just set it to ON, the wheel doesn't work

cybrain, the problem you've found out is the reason of the issue. had the same problem.
- I understand what went wrong, I'm just not sure why there's a setting to lock the aperture.CyBrain

it's not so much to lock the aperture as it is to lock the wheel, which is easily turned by accident with your cheek when you're shooting. i've done that before - accidentally flipped the wheel one or two clicks when shooting in manual mode, and found that my aperture setting has changed by 1/3 stop without me doing it on purpose.
- i leave it on the _ the entire time; i agree it's confusing, rarely put it on oncuke426
- not confusing, but i'd rather that functionality be a menu option somewhere elsecuke426
- Depending on how you use it, a hardware switch to turn that wheel offsky2x
- makes a lot more sense. Dial in your exposure comp and then flick a switch for the duration.sky2x

@ CYBRAIN hows the transition between 10D and 5D? why didnt you go for the 7D? what lense did you buy with it?
a lot of questions eh- i also bought the 5D, main thing is the 7D is not fullframe en in filming this is a big difference.tank

The transition to 5D is a lot. There are a lot of features I have to learn. I thought it would be quicker to learn. I was up to 3am last night with the manual. So far my favorite difference is how much better it works with low light. On my 10D which is 6 years old now, I wouldn't even bother raising ISO above 100. Now, I feel like it's an option if I don't have a tripod.
And yes, I got the 5D instead of the 7D because of the full frame video censor.
I also consider this a transition from a Canon GL-2 digital camcorder I have. That's mainly the difference between standard def and hi def. I have to admit I prefer holding a camcorder that size and orientation. You can hold it in a more stable way.
Keep in mind I haven't even put my test images and video on my computer yet. So, I have much to learn and discover.

We have the same motifs for getting it. i was considering the Canon XHA. But i have a problem with those cameras. The image just looks to flat and digital. Its subjective though...

i would mainly upgrade for photography and then the integrated flash comes in handy. mainly as a fill in. thats a feature I would miss for sure on a 5D as i don't look forward carrying one more device.

My 10D still works. 6 megapixel i guess, all the paint basically came off the magnesium body which makes it look a retired afghanistan vet's camera ; )

My 10D had a built in Flash. I never used it because my Vivitar from 1988 gives such superior light to any built in flash it's ridiculous. Any one spending $2400 for a camera is just not going to settle for the lighting a built in flash gives.
