Like Mydo I was a big Lomo fan for years, in fact it made me fall in love with photography all over again - shooting with film with artistic and unpredictable results rather than clinical digital shots.
I've since then went back to digital but shoot like I did with my LCA and Holga. When I was shooting with the Lomos I said to friends at the time I wish someone would release a digital camera with built-in lomo filters.
The Hipstamatic is EXACTLY that!
Its just a shame the iPhone has such a PISH camera.
Im surprised some Japanese company hasnt come up with a digital camera with built-in lomo filter magic.Heres some shots I took yesterday ....

The app can also give amazing results to someone who isnt creative in the slightest.
The reason I bought this app was because one of my friends bought it and had been posting his results to a gallery on facebook (the app lets you post directly) and his photos were amazing!
And I know full well that this guy doesnt have a creative bone in his body and isnt that great with a camera other than standard "eye level point and shoot" stuff.
He'd been taking photos of mundane views and chairs and stuff and they just looked so good.Thought id prove it so i just stole some of his images ....
not bad results from a non-creative person

Well .......
It turns out that some japanese company has released a Digital Holga .....
Sadly its a crap 5mp and the filters in it are nothing like Lomo at all they just distort the image. think it does have a crap plastic lens like a Holga though.

Looks like it has a vignette filter (unless this guy has added it later)

edit:
You can do a wee mod to the camera to get it to vignette ....

ive had lomo cameras and spent a fortune on getting film developed
been there done it.ive come to the conclusion that in this day and age when the effects can be faked electronically, whats the point in spending a fortune on films and developing and also "wasted films" - when you shoot with your holga then spend a fortune getting the film developed only to find none of the pics came out at all and were all fuct.
At least with digital if you crap-up some shots its no big deal, you just delete it.- it's for the buzz. but the buzz of film photos out weighs missing the good situation shot.mydo

I don't like recreating things, I'd sooner have the original. Films cost 50p and Asda do negs for £2, then I scan them. Same price as half a beer. I might get bored one day though. I love digital too for documenting.

toycamera is the latest app for the fad

it was the Holga developing that was the killer.
i do keep meaning to get myself a digital scanner as all my films were only ever scanned lores at jessops and scan them at highres for print.
and do this as a REAL book ....
- Atkinson0
yea though Jessops do them for £4 negs only, 120 film. Also, scanning yourself you'll get 30% more image. Labs always crop the edges / change the ratio and try to correct the colours. Scanning at home is exciting because you get a true image.

Lomo for me was always something to take out on a day if travelling, or going somewhere interesting. take a roll of film and see what you get. I found i only got good shots with a high quality slide film cross processed by a company that was familiar with developing for people who owned lomos. Normal film just made for normal photos in a shit camera that breaks easily, not fun. so at £10 a roll, not really a good pass time.
Without the luxury of having a trusted developer to go to i wasted so many great photos.- Asda, £2. Film 50p, no expense there. See my flickr.Atkinson
- how much for slide film + cross process?mydo
- i don't think this is your flickr http://www.flickr.co… wrong craig atkinson.mydo
- got it... the ones with Ektachrome look great.mydo

I absolutely love Hipstamatic, but at the same time we have a bunch of cheap 80s Canon and Ricoh cameras for the proper look.

It's an app on your phone!
what do you guys want more? include 35mm films on the phone too?
You have it with you all the time, in your pocket, if you want to take a picture (for fun), you have it with you, and it produces great results (for a phone!!).
Sometimes, you just want to take a picture, just because you didn't bring your "real deal" from home, should you not take that picture with your phone??

I have my camera in my pocket too, and digital in my other pocket.

Just been informed that the company who've developed the Hipstamatic App have another one thats a Development Lab so it allows you to mess with chemicals etc.
Going to see if I can find it :)
