thanks, recruitment companies (vampires) here i come

Could try giving Darren @ Character a call, I don't know if they'd have anything at the moment but he's one of the very few nice recruiters I've spoken to over the last few years.

Recruitment companies can suck on my balls. I got laid off a while back, went to loads of rec agencies who spouted the 'we'll have you a job in no time' shit, after not hearing anything for a while I did it all myself.
In other words, sign up with a few rec agents but the best thing is to do is contact the companies you want to work for personally.
You probably know all this already though so apologies if I'm preaching.

Please don't use recruiters. Most businesses can't afford their fees at the moment. It would only take a few days to contact all the good agencies in your area. Just do the leg work yourself. If you're good, you will get picked up soon.
Best of luck!

Yeah, I'd explore freelance - that seems well suited to the SEO field. Roll in somewhere, consult, optimize, have everyone marvel at how you did it, get paid, have a holiday.

There's a lot of demand of webdevs down here in London, and it pays a bit better. Last trend tho is dotnet (crap, I know) and cheap and cheerfull WP sites. If you can stomach that, ask a friend to use his address (nobody will call you if they know that you are up north) and set up a few interviews...
None of my friends in the business needed more 2 weeks to get a 40k+ gig...

this should make you feel better
- There's lots of friendship on that blog. It certainly made me feel better.Continuity
