Hi Guys, i am working on a site for a video production company. The site is being built in wordpress(.org) and i need some options for hosted video that could easily be added to posts/pages.
Basically something like vimeo but without any branding and with a nice simple, fairly anonymous player.
Any help would be great.

check out the list of supported host from this plug in http://wordpress.org/extend/plug…
In my experience hosting video can get pricey , and hosting it on a shared server can bring the video to a crawl .
if video is going to be the driving content of your site then i would look into a Streaming Server host
http://www.influxis.com/if you are just going to have them be progressive downloads and your videos are beefy , streaming is more ideal ,
I have hosted videos off YouTube , sure you get their water mark but you can count on those videos being accessible on smarhphones (blackberry, iphone etc)
also lets others spread them around the web to give them more shelf life
- youtube has permeated so much of the video on the web, people are used to seeing the watermark and just ignore it.bulletfactory

Youtube and Toobplayer - No watermark but with a reliable hosting service.
Toobplayer is a Flash component that finds and streams the Youtube .flv without the Youtube overlay stuff.
- Ah, YouTube may be blocking linking now...orrinward
- damn, thats a shame!JamesBoynton

Battleaxe - yeah video will be a very important part of the site, but won't be too long in time. Are you saying that hosting it yourself is pricey? as in something like vimeo is best because its hosts?
- wont be too long, couple minutes topsJamesBoynton
- you can modify the embedded player with vimeo... remove the logo, video name, etc.Chief
- yeah i think it still has the vimeo logo when loading though... is that right?JamesBoynton
- ExposureRoom kicks the crap out of vimeotedvandell

Cheers Ted, is there a way to remove the branding and tweak the settings in exposureroom? i know nothing about video but it does look very good!

Client pointed outsomething like this -http://videopress.com/
anyone used this?

@jamesboyton
pricey in terms of potential bandwidth usedin the end the easiest way to start off is to host your own videos , find or build your own flash or html5 player and start by embedding your videos into the pages (progressive download)
this will allow you to see your needs better unless you know off the bat you will be receiving high traffic (then streaming is the better choice)

things to look for is , does the video playback lag when there are more than a few request for it ,
optimizing the video before putting it on any server is also key and I highly recommend Soreson Squeeze

Hey Battleaxe, thanks for that, much appreciated... one issue with hosting it ourselves is the client will be updating the site in WP and adding vids so i'm not sure how they could get it on the server... esp if its a reasnoble size. With the streaming option... is it purely flash? just because i know ipad/phone will be an issue for them
cheers

I just did a really simple site for a friend and he went with the Vimeo Plus (or whatever it's called) to host his videos and for $60 per year you get a player with no Vimeo logo, customizable colors, sizes, and really nice quality.
http://www.howlatthemoon.tv- Looks good, but i know they will moan about the vimeo logo at the start... i heard they were removing that.. but i guess not yet!JamesBoynton

You could upload mp4 videos to www.theclientspace.com and they're played on a player that's branded with your company logo and colors.
We're working on an embed feature so keep on the lookout for that.

just convert the video to flv and use one of the flv players - usually based off the longtail player. very simple and easy to use. once setup the video is added with a shortcode.
- FLV is dying. You can't play them on mobile devices. I have done a lot of sites for production companies and they're all asking if their portfolio can be played on an iPhone. Here's an example: eyecandydc.comar170na

You know, Blip.tv us somewhat minimal in their branding - you can put your company name on the bottom-right corner of the player. But their re-encoding of your video is nothing like Vimeo.

Have a look at http://buto.tv – costs £99 per month, but you get great quality, HTML5 iPhone video, analytics, etc and unlimited players – get what you pay for ey.
- not that I'm biased ;)ShaneHolley
- their video runs like shit on my work machine (G5 Tower). seems good though.ESKEMA
