What kind of frame rates would something like this have to be filmed at?
Got a client who wants to do some slow motion work and got a quote from a photographer we use who was on about hiring equiptment.
I would assume that it would be a silly frame rate camera he'd have to hire but said he'd only need to hire one that shoots at 60fps then slow it down in software.I'm not convinced that it would give as good results/detail/clarity as the video above.
Any videomakers on here got any tips.
If you're UK based do you know where a really high frame rate camera could be hired from.
and also lighting to suit.

don't film digital to start with. film.

airey, don't say film! a RED camera can cope with that perfectly. it's purely digital and you can use all the optics that you normally use on a 35mm film based cam.
...and it shoots 120 fps!
my advice mate, you need to worry not only about the frame rate but also the lighting. bear in mind that the higher your frame rate is the more light you will need! talking about 30-50k of lights to see something!
anyway i can't think of a provider out of my head now, but if you drop an email i will ask a few friends to get in touch with you.
- cheers, would be mucho appreciated any info23kon
- yeah but how are you going to process the red video when most current systems don't support itdoesnotexist

Phantom camera.

I know that RED cameras are pretty simple to rent on hourly basis, a few places do that in London.
Although I don't know who! Sorry. I just know people who have done it...

sounds like you need a phantom camera

This is an interesting article on the subject:

phantoms are great, but again a bitch with the light.
you need to roast your crew to see something...

this is 120 fps. i think anything less won't really cut it. if you use software it'll look jerky or um... tweeny? cant think of a better word

check this baby out.
"1024 x 1024 12 bit resolution at 5,400 frames per second. Top speed of 675,000fps. Shutter to 370 nanoseconds. "

Got a rough guide of prices for a Phantom hire.
camera - £2000/day
cinemax's (2 needed) £300 each/day
dockingstation £250/day
+ Tech to run camera £430 10hr daySo quite an investment (as there would also be studio and lights too and models) but worthwhile for some stunning 1000fps HD footage!
I'm going to talk to the client to see how serious they are about the project. The initial idea was for a fun viral thing that'd only be online but i guess if it was HD quality they could also use as expo material etc or even TV adverts!
If its just something throwaway and fun then this camera could be worth a shout and just buy one rather than hiring one.
http://gizmodo.com/381363/casio-…300fps looks like decent enough quality for the ol' YouTube.
It's slow enough to be entertaining and a little bit fascinating.Although it is the 1000fps from the Phantom etc that would be rediculously fascinating with the amount of detail it would capture.

Casio F1 can do insane frame rates... maybe no 1080, but probalby youtube resolution.... requires more planning and testing than most people think...
these sorts of ideas are randomly seen as great, then suddenly seen as tired or bad as soon as the actual costs and process is thought about...
I think some of the stuff in that video looks rendered...
- i was gonna recommend this, for a low budget and youtube, it might workThelonious_Funk

woooahh.. I'm amazed at the numbers here..
