Hey guys,
The ash cloud has stranded myself, my wife, and now a new friend who is on this crappy journey with us in the Madrid airport. We're trying to get to Lisbon. They don't know when they can rebook us to fly. I'm looking into the train, but can't take it until tomorrow night at best... assuming there is still tickets. Renting a car looks like it's about 400 bucks and we need to return it to Madrid which isn't an option.
Basically we're a bit screwed right now. Anyone got ideas? Anyone in Madrid want to drive us to Lisbon? We'll pay :D

Have you looked into Eurolines coaches? There _must_ be service to Libson, surely.

Too bad I'm not in Madrid because I would totally help you out... good luck!

ok, looks like we found a bus service, a woman with a map to the subway to get to the bus. Waiting to try and book tickets on the bus for tomorrow.... hopefully they are still available.
The first rental car place we asked was 1000 euros.... some luxery car I guess. Plus apparently renting cars in Europe isn't like the US. You can't just return it anywhere... adding to the pain.
- how about hertz? can't you drop those off anywhere?********
- My parents used Hertz in France... dropped it off in another city.ismith
- really? they weren't opn when we arrived :( already booked the bus. Guess it will be cheaper though in the end.jfletcher
- Yeah... another city - but you're trying to get to another COUNTRY. Not gonna work..beav
- you can't do that here either- get charged huge fees for not bringing it back to the same place you got itdoesnotexist

ok, booked a bus... 35 euros a person. Leave at noon (about 9 hours). Guess we'll crash for a bit. A woman gave us her subway map to get to the bus station... so we're on our adventure :p
benfal... there will be plenty of drinking in Lisbon, I'm there for UXLX.

Go to Toledo.

Apparently our bus has a transfer in Merida, so I'll see a bit of that I guess... like 30-60 minutes :\
Overall I'll just be happy to get to Lisbon and rest. I'm already wrecked from travel this month (went to Mexico last week) and spending a night not sleeping in an airport isnt helping.
I'll be in Lisbon for almost a week, and just had 2 days in Paris (good god was that expensive). Overall it's been fun so far, and this is just a little detour :)
Expecting Lisbon to be awesome. Any places QBN thinks I should go?

Ok, got to Lisbon. Took a bus... nice to see the country side, but a bit of a rough journey. The hotel was nuts with people. Apparently EasyJet cancelled almost all flights from Lisbon today.
pepe - I talked to someone who was trying to get out of Lisbon for 3 days now. However other people have no issues. Seems to be a lot about the time of day an the airline itself EasyJet seems to suck a bit. For Madrid, it's where we got diverted to, so seems like they should be fine for now. I'm hoping by Sat things should be more cleared up. Good luck :)

thx. are more people having trouble leaving madrid or entering or both?
