I went to a "tourists"-themed party (in SF of course) and some guy came dressed as a terrorist as a joke, and everybody got all pissed off at him. I thought it was funny and we high-fived.

I disagree with the show being pulled. I firmly agree with what some people here have said about the right to free speech.
I find it amusing how a lot of people refer to some Islamic people making a threat to the creators of South Park as terrorism though... It's fanaticism and retaliation, not terrorism - The same as how a lot of ignorant people beat up homosexuals for religious reasons.
The threats are in exactly the same league as gay-bashing and hating on pro-choice people.

Dodecadipshit... what did i tell you? Now i'm going to have to go all allah or whatever on your ass.... now where'd I leave that button?
- heh...well this dodecdipshit is out for the day anyway cuz it saturday...peaceDodecahedron
- Out for lack of a cogent, realistic argument. "peace"dog_opus

Well personally I find it offensive that women in Iran are forced to wear the burqa, or that in some parts of Pakistan they still stone people to death for adultery, or that African women in some countries undergo sexual mutilation...
Am I gonna roll down to those places and demanding they stop? No, because I respect that there may be differences of culture even if I find some of them personally offensive or even abhorrent.
- why wouldn't you demand it stop? millions of people are in those countries, join the fightDodecahedron
- Sure, resort to violence? Also those are all examples where people are actually harmed, ukit
- .I'm not sure this has anything to do with Islamic values though, these are human rights abuses made by tyrannical selfish governmentsDodecahedron
- ....power mongering regimes. You should learn about Islam and its people.Dodecahedron
- No, I'm not saying it does...well the burqa example maybe...just that diff countries have diff ways of livingukit
- It's not always because of a tyrannical regime. Islamic women don't necessarily feel oppressed by having to wear a burqa - It is their religion that they follow.orrinward
- burqa. it is their religion that they follow that governs it.orrinward
- The same argument could then be applied to ritual piercing in certain cultures.orrinward

South Park has nothing to do with freedom of speech or religion, its actually behaving more AGAINST freedom of religion considering its intentions.
- look into how south park has whittled away at the walls of the FCCquack
- Dodecahedron0
There's nothing wrong with holding your sacred values...SACRED. Why does the mainstream entertainment world get to run rampant on peoples cultural values in the name of some non existant modern attitude of 'freedom' ? South Park has no higher values than ratings, I'm pretty sure Islam does.
- *nonexistent Also, if you don't like South Park (or any other TV show), don't tune in.dog_opus
- i do actually, i like it but i know when its being pointlessly childish and obnoxious for the sake of attentionDodecahedron
- Then don't give it attention. See how simple it is?dog_opus
- you must be slow or somethingDodecahedron
- Rather than juvenile name-calling, why don't you point out, rationally and civilly, why you think I'm wrong?dog_opus
- i didn't name call you nothing i said you were slow, and you just proved it because you don't get my pointDodecahedron
- The point of free speech protection (made necessary by offense) is completely lost on you. "Non existant" if you will.dog_opus

Listen, bottom line, if you want to go and live in an Islamic country...then fine. Make as harsh of laws as you want censoring this or that in order to stay true to your belief system. But in most Western countries we have secular governments and freedom of speech so that should be the standard.

The point is that it is time for Islam to grow up and join the modern era. I personally find "Piss Christ" to be revolting and vile, but you know what? Not only do I not think the idiot who did it should be killed, but I somehow manage to live with being offended because I think free speech is an ideal worth being offended over from time to time.
- Dang, sorry about that last run-on sentence. loldog_opus
- same here, but the sad thing is that the major part of muslim are really non violent people, georgesIII
- Yeah, I'm not saying Muslims are bad people — just that the ideology lends itself to intolerance and violence.dog_opus

I'm about to offend an entire belief system.

Dude, I have nothing against Muslims, I'm just saying they have shown time and time again they will engage in violent threats to stop people from doing something as simple as depicting Mohammed. That's wrong and I'm not sure why you are defending it.
I got no problem with concerned groups writing letters, everyone does that. But when you are threatening someone's life to shut them up, I get angry about that.
- one or two might and that becomes the entire issue. They got perfectly legit legal threats too you know.Dodecahedron
- Dodecahedron0
OMG, that is prejudice. Only muslims threaten violence? The only category of people who threaten violence over TV are extremists and they ain't all muslim.
- ukit0
So if there was a TV show insulting scientologists would it get pulled? I call bullshit in this double standard.
South Park had an entire show devoted to making fun of Mormonism which was pretty damn funny and didn't get pulled.
- insulting/offending people isn't the point being derogatory and intentionally belligerent is anotherDodecahedron
- whatever the words you use there's a threashhold all mainstream TV abides by and frankly I think this is one of those. More than terrorists made that point to CCDodecahedron
- You are parsing words...there's no difference at allukit
- those examples and way more than terrorists made that point to CCDodecahedron
- Obviously there is a difference whatever the words are.Dodecahedron
- I'm sure they get letters ALL THE TIME from various groups complaining...only Muslims will take it to the level of actually threatening violenceukit
- threatening violenceukit
- Actually, there was a South Park episode ripping on scientology. It was damned hilarious, too.Continuity
- Dodecahedron0
yeah its a tv show and unsuitable content is pulled from tv shows all the time. Hey children why not celebrate this day with mass porn uploading to youtube?! weeee
- ukit0
Anyway, the point is South Park is just a cable TV show. People can choose to watch it or not watch it.
I watched the first half of the show and Ironically the whole point was all the people they insulted were gathering together to figure out how they could get revenge. They decided to try and steal Mohammed's secret powers since he is the only one who is beyond criticism.
- ukit0
Yeah, "death threats" ahahahaha
It's not like militant Islamic groups would ever, you know, resort to violence to make a political point or anything.
- terrorists are political groups, proper Islamic organisations are peaceful and smartDodecahedron
- And who do you think was calling them up with death threats? Who tried to kill the Dutch cartoonists?ukit
- Maybe not terrorists, but certainly not peaceful organizationsukit
- who do you think asked them directly to simply remove it because its unnecessarily antagonistic?Dodecahedron
- You can't be overtly racist on tv can you? This is similar territory and that point was made by people who arn't terroristsDodecahedron
- Dude, you are living in a fantasy world. Read the news, they pulled it b/c of threatsukit
- and letters and pressure from human rights organizsations.Dodecahedron
- Ya, I just those concerned letters along with "I will kill your family if you publish this" makes for a persuasive argumentukit
- they were different letters from the so called death theats obvioulsy but you must be 13Dodecahedron
- quack0
In my religion, I am offended if any user named Dodecahedron posts on QBN, anything you willfully do is intentionally disrespectful and you will be dealt with as such with swift recourse
- ok whateverDodecahedron
- see what happens when religion puts its restraints around their "non believers"quack
- you make zero point. I'm chinese, not white, so i'll say nigger all I wantDodecahedron
- so you do understand the term free speech...quack
