Well personally I find it offensive that women in Iran are forced to wear the burqa, or that in some parts of Pakistan they still stone people to death for adultery, or that African women in some countries undergo sexual mutilation...

Am I gonna roll down to those places and demanding they stop? No, because I respect that there may be differences of culture even if I find some of them personally offensive or even abhorrent.

    • why wouldn't you demand it stop? millions of people are in those countries, join the fightDodecahedron
    • Sure, resort to violence? Also those are all examples where people are actually harmed, ukit
    • .I'm not sure this has anything to do with Islamic values though, these are human rights abuses made by tyrannical selfish governmentsDodecahedron
    • ....power mongering regimes. You should learn about Islam and its people.Dodecahedron
    • No, I'm not saying it does...well the burqa example maybe...just that diff countries have diff ways of livingukit
    • It's not always because of a tyrannical regime. Islamic women don't necessarily feel oppressed by having to wear a burqa - It is their religion that they follow.orrinward
    • burqa. it is their religion that they follow that governs it.orrinward
    • The same argument could then be applied to ritual piercing in certain cultures.orrinward
