OK, forget about Steve Jobs, Apple, Adobe, etc for a second.
Do you think it's important or even necessary for the technologies that make up the web to be open standards?
By that I mean not a plug-in or technology controlled by one company but a free, open standard that anyone can develop for and that any company can render in their own way.
- but everybody knows HTML5 is an evil apple plot to double plus good and war is peace.kpl
- Sure, as long as I don't have to learn 12 different applications that do the exact same thing.fyoucher1
- Why not both?hotroddy
- And you don't Apple has any clout or influence over 'open standards'?hotroddy
- *you don't think apple...hotroddy
- apple aside. The only browser crashes I have had in the last while have been caused by flash.danthon

As we clearly know, this is about preserving the App store stranglehold and cash cow and not about user experience or device performance.
But would you put up with with it in another context. How about Sharp's new 4 color TV technology. I don't know how great it is, but say its amazing. Now you by the TV and discover that you can't get HBO, Skinemax etc on it. No technical reason, just that Sharp disallows it. Why? Well Sharp started a PPV service that is integrated with the TV and they feel that those channels compete with their new business model for the TV by showing movies.
Would you put up with that?
- depends on the competitive advantages and tradeoffs. I wouldn't dismiss it entirely just because of one thing.kpl
No one ever went broke underestimating the Taste of The American Publichotroddy- ...oh and Sharp said no porn either.ETM
- I'm not sure if it is "clear" because Jobs main point was the focus on the iPhone user experience. That's why Flash is out.whatsup
- ...OUT!whatsup
- I know... its soooo terrible having Flash on Android phones I've used.ETM

I wonder what effect all of this will have on sales of Flash CS5.

I think designers and developers would be more inclined to stand by Adobe in this whole Flash conflict if only Adobe hadn't been screwing the same designers and developers before.
Just a few, feel free to dig out some of your own memories...— No support for CS2 on Intel macs. Buy CS3 (after a long delay).
— No support for CS3 on Snow Leopard. Buy CS4.
— Extortionate software pricing and absurd price differences across countries.
— Bullying enthusiast bloggers who used Adobe ™s (Photoshop, Air, Flash, etc.) with cease and desist letters.

Once someone comes out with a HTML5, CSS, JS IDE with a timeline/ motion creator, then I'd say bye to Flash in displaying content.
If I want better games, I probably wouldn't miss flash all that much. All the cool games stuff coming out isn't even in Flash with the exception of Zynga games (Farmville, etc..).
However, they'll be a big miss in software tools, created in Flash, which might as well use HTML 5/ JS/ CSS anyways... however, people want closed systems like Flash for security and protection.
