I have a client(Wall St. stock program trading Co.) asking for design and new hosting. They can't be on a hosting Co. like GoDaddy cause it needs to be secure due to there content.
There secured content will already require login and such.
What the hell is secure hosting. I've worked with companies using NetSolution at any where form $30-to-$100 a month for hosting. The mo' money the mo' secure. :-D
And here I am thinking we'll put them on 1and1.

yea but i believe the company has to approve. :/

personally i'd be really careful to make sure the client has the choice of options and the responsibility of the co-called 'security'. we all know the reality of how secure the web truly is and you don't want to become embroiled in a legal problem down the track with a fantasist client.

and I was thinking about using a WPress theme/layout for the re-design. Never used Joomla - is it just like WP or more backend option/complex/flexible?

go wp. it's freaking awesome. joomla is like rough gay sex, a real pain in the arse.
- HAHA - but is the WP secure. I hate this "secure" shit. I'll tell you what i think its all good, unles you really got something special. in which case serve your self.hiatus
- wasnt there just a bunch of threads about WP being hacked?heavyt
- yeah, but that's slowly been fixed. it's still early days for wp.airey
- plus some of the issues were database security on MT et al, not so much wp.airey

i'm not a user nor a proponent of godaddy hosting, but why can't you host a secure site through them? just have them create your csr and verisign create your cert, right?

least secure would be a shared server, multiple users on the same box in the same user space, which is all budget hosting. more secure would be a virtualized dedicated server, most secure would be dedicated hardware, but of course it all depends on the admin that set up the box and how secure they've made it.

I know Fusepoint offers a very secure service in Canada: http://www.fusepoint.com/ it's pricey though.
Wallstreet firms hosting requirments are often influenced by the SEC, as they need to comply with legislation like Sarbanes Oxley (legislation that followed the Enron fiasco), which I believe requires a certain level of security (both location and hardwear) and logging of all information distributed to the public. If you've never done anything like this, you might consider partnering with a company that specializes in the industry, have them run the implementation, you focus on design.
These guys (once again in canada) do that sort of stuff. http://www.q4websystems.com/
I don't think they do design in-house, so you may be their type of client.

Maybe someone can answer this so i dont start a new thread
I have a joomla e commerce site. i need customize this site for an affiliate marketing program. So i was thinking of buying a commerce template and switching out all the graphics and color scheme
Can't i just buy a commerce template that can be switched out?
Is there something specific I should look for?
A certain template site?- Joomla has an iffy security record... it may be better nowdays though....vaxorcist
