Cheap laptop

My macbook pro recently drowned and I'm thinking about getting a cheaper alternative that would still be able to edit video and music rather smoothly.
Everyone tells me that macs are "the way you wanna go" for video but those same people can't even give me an example of anything else that could handle it well. Any suggestions?

A decent Dell Studio I'd imagine would do the trick.
I do multicam editing in Premiere on my little HP Touchsmart TX2z and it handles it quite well, but I wouldn't recommend it as with video/3D the fan runs loud and also heats up quite a lot.
Any laptop with a lot of processing power, RAM, Hard Drive and ventilation should do you well.
If budget is what you're after I'd recommend a Dell Studio.
- you can get a dell studio 15 with quad core i7 - likely to be good enough!Samush

^ I'd buy a 13" refurbed aluminum before I'd get the white plastic model. 2.0 GHZ: $899, 2.26 GHZ (Pro model): $929
