Are Logos Dead?
Where'd that discussion just go? Seemed like a totally valid and interesting topic.
I didn't get a chance to see inside. Did someone spoil? Can we start again?

No.
But a logo is only a part of bigger branding platform.
Its a weird statement though.

I reckon it was a valid discussion - but it was also spammy.
There was no article to read.. the link provided a blog post which was a duplicate of the text that had been added here. The links providing extra info on the blog, went to a site selling a book, and a page selling a subscription to design week.

Next you will be saying Font styles are dead because it has no meaning anymore and we all need to conform to a new way of thinking. FFS. There is one thing that will always be with design and that is Logo design.

I sort of liked her blog. It looked better than most.

it could have opened into a nice discussion, dont see why it cant continue here and not on a blog..
i still say a logo is a brand for me.

logos are not dead, logos are iconography, iconography does a great job of "a picture is worth a 1000 words" instant communication. i'm sure the future will saturate us with even more bigger logos

The idea of logos being dead reminds me of stuff that Wolff Olins was going on about re. the 2012 Olympics logo.
I think there's something to it - and I think the problems of multiple formats and dynamic presence were addressed quite well in the 2012 identity. Imo, even though it's not conventional, that logo involved some interesting and quite deep thinking (although, I'm sure it could also be argued that the thinking involves a lot of bullshit too).

by 'valid and interesting' do you mean, 'pointless bollocks'. because if it does then yes.

everything is going to die (people, plants, animals, trends, etc.) so why not call it NOW - so that in 50 years when it does, you can say you said it WAY back when... I wish I could have been the asshole who decided to declare print dead back in the 50's

is anyone seriously considering the idea that logos could become obsolete?
if you have an ad, you must put your name on it so people know wtf it's for. that name is a logo, no matter what it looks like.
so... as long as there are ads there will be logos.
as long as there are products, there will be ads.
as long as man exists, there will be products.
therefore, as long as man exists, there will be logos.
