Apparently there is a Flash to iPhone compiler in the forthcoming Flash Pro CS5. Apple have just banned its use in OS4.0. Seems like Titanium (appcelerator.com) may be screwed as well.

I'm favourably inclined towards Apple, but this seems unnecessarily control-freakish to me.

I'm seriously starting to hate Apple.

this is crazy. so many new apps would be available b/c of flash CS5. and apple would make the 30% off the sale just like any of the other apps. just does not make sense.

Adobe should ban the Creative Suite on Macs.
- SteveJobs0
i don't care about flash. i'm over that. what i do care about is that this means no virtual machines at all. so, not just flash, but java, .net, console emulators are all forbidden.
i don't know how they are going to enforce this, but i think it's very slimy.

Jobs needs to hurry the fuck up and die of cancer or some shit. Not you ^

Yeah this is getting out of hand. Unless Apple wants to come out and explain why Adobe's Flash to iPhone conversion is deficient this is getting really stupid.

wow, that is a joke. i wondered how pissed adobe devs are? all that time to create a workaround in the new flash just to be able to publish for iphone, and then apple just goes and squashes it in a millisecond. that is a shitty thing to do no matter how much you love/hate apple.

Whiffs of hidden agenda to me. Surely the only reason iPhone doesn't support Flash is because they are developing their own version and holding out.
Either that or what BattleAxe said.
- they want more cocoa devs, so they're forcing us to use their tools.zarkonite

Is there any clear reason why Apple would do this? Does this somehow detract from their ability to charge for the iPhone SDK (or whatever it is) if apps can just be written in Flash and ported over, and added to the approval cycle for the app store?
- you still need to pay $100 per year to be enrolled in the dev programme.Samush

I'm giving apple the benefit of the doubt. Given Adobe's track record, why do you have so much faith that any code they write for you would actually be good?
I'm assuming this is just quality control on Apple's part to keep their store from being overrun by shitty, useless, crashing apps.
- bahjimbojones
- Don't you think they could just test the apps and approve them if they pass said tests? This is deeper.mathinc
- the kool-aid sure is tasty, ain't it?SteveJobs
- steve, why so much hate?jimbojones
- I'm not a huge Apple fan actually, and I'm also not a huge Adobe fan.rosem
- I just really believe that Flash CS5 create iPhone/iPad apps would really make a big splashrosem
- based on Adobe's current track record of useless upgrades, and buggy products.rosem
- Apple > Adobe in terms of having their shit together.rosem
- rosem - you're a chump********
- (sorry, i'm a bit annoyed .. I don't think apple deserve the benefit of the doubt on this one)********
- really, on a store they created? adobe could create an app store for flash...rosem
- ... BUT THEY DON'T HAVE THEIR SHIT TOGETHER.rosem

- Adobe'e track record? If you include Macromedia's past as well, consider what the web would be without Flash.CyBrain

Like I mentioned in another thread months ago, it's because Apple wants to control their own ad platform on the iPhone. And then, today, they announce their own "iAd" ad delivery platform and get a piece of the advertising loot.
