I made a sweet widget a few years ago when I worked at Yahoo! that was a Jello mold sitting on your desktop getting info fed to it from the USGS that would wiggle around and tell you the size and location when earthquakes happened. http://thingsyoucando.com/wiglet…
Little did I know that a tremor occurs like every 30 seconds, so the thing would almost constantly wiggle and become annoying as all hell.
Another mistake was making it to run on Konfabulator.
It's sister widget that was a popsicle which melted while being fed UV meter data never happened.

Quake strikes in Indian Ocean; no tsunami threat
[Updated at 1:49 p.m.] The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said there is no threat of a destructive widespread tsunami, according to historical earthquake and tsunami data, though a "very small" possibility exists "of a local tsunami that could affect coasts" no more than 62 miles (100 km) from the epicenter, the warning center said.http://news.blogs.cnn.com/2010/0…
