Hi all,
I got my iMac 27" couple of weeks ago, just noticed a dead pixel, is this something I can fix, or am I able to send it back?
Thanks
- EdTheDuck1010
If you got it a couple weeks ago it will still be under warranty (as long as you got it new) and warranties usually cover dead pixels so you should be able to send it back.
As for fixing it yourself, I remember a few programs that flash random colours that you can leave running for a few hours that can sometimes fix "frozen" pixels, but not dead ones.

They are almost inevitable in the LCD manufacturing process. Most displays these days have at least one and each manufacturer has a different limit for acceptable dead pixels per display.
You won't get a replacement for just 1, you would probably need over 15.
- not true...I went through a store the other day with hundreds of LCD TVs and I didn't see any dead pixelsmonospaced

If you got it a couple of weeks ago hopefully you still have time to simply get a refund and by another... hopefully without the fault. Warrenties are usually a fucker with dead pixels unless its over a certain amount.

Your next one will probably have a dead pixel too, unless its in the centre of your screen then I suggest you just live with it.

I've never had a dead-pixel .. maybe I've just been lucky?
- nor me - really don't agree that they are inevitable!********

If you're in Britain, you probably don't even need for it to be under warranty - you can simply be 'unhappy with the sale', return it and get your money back.
Probably.
- OH BRITANNIA, BRITANNIA RULES THE retail?Hombre_Lobo

Man that sucks.
When i got my iphone it had 3 dead pixels, took it straight back and the pretentiously titled 'genius' (i assure you, he was not) said it happens all the time.
Good luck, jihad bomb the place!

If its red it aint dead! Should just be a stuck pixel then which might be able to be fixed with the free software. Better red than dead.

I like the sound of that, just tried jscreenfix, didn't fix it, gonna try massaging it, which sounds wrong :)
- you can't massage it out on new iMacs because there's covered by polycarbonate.WrappedInBooks
- There is no way that any of these techniques will work - they're created by scammers for suckers********
- just send it back ..********
- fucking idiot is asking QBN and is running random software and will rub it out before calling apple. What an IDIOTmonospaced

When I got my 27" I had a couple of stuck pixels...2 really bright pins of light. I tried the software (didn't work), so I called the mac store, said I have this computer with a defective screen and they switched it out.

Why the FUCK are you asking QBN? Ask Apple instead. Damn.
- Yeah FFS what up with you MAN, hahaha********

I've seen a few online shops which will check your screen for dead pixels before they ship a monitor. Only thing is - they charge a fee for the check.
I guess this means that if you _don't_ get the check, you're definitely going to end up with a shitty monitor - because someone has to end up with them?

use witch hazel on it.

@set> is it the same thing for digital photos? i noticed a red dot on some of my images. especially noticeable if it's a dark setting. super annoying, i always have to go back and retouch that dead pixel or is it not dead? i'm guessing it is.
- I think you get that from an imperfection on yr camera's CCD sensor********
- oh, thanks lukus. i'll look into that.sea_sea
