Wow, big move dude.
Did you land a good job there? there are lots of design opportunities so you should be ok for work. Exciting times.
Best of luck, make us brits proud! :D

i would just say give it more than a year, even if you hate it. it can be rough to settle here and make the city your own. i know more than a few people who were so ready to leave/hated things, but stuck with it past the first year and now they love it here. because it's such a big place, sometimes it takes longer to discover the right job, neighborhood, social circle, etc.
- good advice.. im from nyc and i barely touched upon all of that and everyday is discoverye-pill

I'm really interested in moving out to NY too, but getting a visa to work in the U.S seems nigh-on impossible from what I've read (I'm a UK citizen). Those of you who are moving (or who've already made the move) from the UK, how did you do it?

Any issues with your VISAs? I'm looking at moving out to NYC myself to be with my girlfriend (who's a New Yorker) and to work but huge pain trying to get a VISA! Would welcome any tips/advice from you...

Jobs are becoming more available. Housing is opening up. Its a good time to move here, as long as the economy gets better.

i moved a year and half ago. Best move I could have ever done. NYC is great in all aspects. Work, connections, life and so on. I think you'll enjoy it here. I live in greenpoint, brooklyn and love it. But there's other great areas in BK that you might enjoy as well.

my advice is to be sure you are going to live in an area that you can call home. I lived in astoria (queens) for about 2 years... and hated nyc. Once I moved to brooklyn I started to really see what this city has to offer. I've lived in both williamsburg and now in greenpoint, love both of them.
If you going to use a broker try using one from the area you want to live in, they will know apartments that may not be listed with bigger agencies.

Thanks all for the advice, and keep it coming. Seems everyone is very positive and helpful for what is a very big step. When we get there, we'll throw a QBN party for y'all... so we can trade stories and hook up some collaborations...

Are you already sorted with a visa? Seems like the biggest obstacle and requires sponsorship etc. Working holiday visas are a good way to try a place out for a few months but USA doesn't seem to offer this.

i hope you like the smell of piss and dodging dogshit on the sidewalk. if you do, then welcome.
- seriously....
my neighborhood is a regular dogshit obstacle course...duckseason
