- This is actually a flip-flop gear, you can ride fixed or freewheel. I have the Trek Soho S that does the same thing.EightyDeuce

ride them both and decide. how it feels is mostly what matters. and there's nothing wrong with a prefab, sure they skimp on parts a bit, but it'll take you at least 5+ years to wear anything out (short of tires) and then you can just replace the parts at that point. if you're in a lot of traffic, a more head-up riding position and relaxed geometry may be safer for you, especially if you're not a really experienced rider. aluminum tends to be stiffer, you feel the bumps a bit more, steel has a bit more flex to it. I think you should expand your options a bit beyond those two models though and try some others out.

I own one from a few years back and I love it. Mine came with moustache bars which I swapped for Soma Noah's Arc bars and it worked out great.

As mentioned by others, dont get a D/U lock.
i worked in a bike shop (briefly) and id have a couple of people come in with bikes with their D/U locks attached, having lost their key for it.
Be sure to do this -
I perfected the technique quite well, getting 2 swipes of a hammer to get them off, took about 3 seconds!

I ride a bmx now around the city, but wanted to upgrade for longer rides around the city. I like the feel of the bmx when I ride it and want to transition on to a road bike. Im not really a fan of fixed gears. I think they are pointless in my city and don't need the cool points. Any recommendations on what to get?
