The Javascript work on that site never fails to make me feel like an amateur coder.
They also seem to update it all the time. Just noticed this.

The way the images expand and then the zooming in is FUCKING AMAZING.
Some people would struggle to do that in flash and these guys are knocking it out in Javascript. Can you imagine doing cross-browser testing that beast?
And handling the database for all that data and then being able to pass it smoothly to the JS files?

Dunno, I've never seen what people think is really impressive (beyond the coding). It has never been that smooth when I've viewed it.
I guess my question is - why do we care if it is a twin turbo V6 or a V12 if the performance/results are the same?
Or am I missing something??
- because it shows you how much you can do with Javascript dude. If you are working on digital it should be relevant if not don't worry about it.clearThoughts

i remember when this site launched a few years ago. they definitely blazed a trail with it, and i'm glad to see they've stuck with it.

I believe that in a forum filled with web developers, the general interest will go beyond the average user that complains because aol won't allow him/ her to see the images you just sent him over email.
History tells us that those who don't follow trends are more likely to stand out from the pack, I see this site (which was pretty smooth on my laptop) and I think, well this is done in flash, but because I read here it was not, gets noticed because they are choosing to go through a different route.

What's most compelling about this site is the fact that it's ecommerce. A progressive approach like this is usually reserved for portfolios or campaigns but you never see this applied to ecommerce. Aside from the design the usability is amazing - the add to cart button doesn't appear until you choose a shoe size, the way the size guide slides in, the cart funtionality, the navs on the right and left, even the checkout process is stellar. Doesn't "feel" like a shopping experience - amazing that it's all done in javascript
