"Flash is owned and controlled by Adobe."
And the iPhone is owned and controlled by Apple. As are most components of OS X.
Chickens and eggs.

flash allows people to write apps that do things that Apple and / or AT&T may find contradictory to their business goals...
i.e. the iPhone's app tollgates can be bypassed by flash....
- Sell flash in the app store for $5 :Dismith
- if you "sell flash" for $5 in the app store, then people may play flash games rather then BUY games...etc...vaxorcist
- I know but fuck it, Apple would probably still come out on top. Flash games still couldn't access the multitouch or other input APIsismith
- APIs that would make flash games playable. Videos etc would all work fine.ismith

Adobe is working with Mozilla/Firefox to develop a more open framework for Flash with projects like: http://www.mozilla.org/projects/…

*sigh
i thought this was about an iphone app with girls flashing their headlights....

P.S. that article is relatively biased, he's arguing for platform independent web standards with one hand and propping up a propriety mobile OS with the other.

Adobe just needs to get their shit tight. Flash still has a lot of great purposes even without being a video or website delivery tool. Fact is, it does those...on top of many other things too, online and off, for multiple environments. Everyone has it too. I don't see it ever going away, just evolving. Maybe when Adobe see's their flagship sinking, they'll start plugging in those holes.

The tablet may be the thing that gets the plug-in onto the iPhone?

tablet?

JAILBREAK IT!
apple are so gay for not allowing flash, its just sad, it would open so many more doors, but apple are doing fine as they are, cash flowing in...
- why would they want the number one source of OSX crashes on the iphone?BIGGESTDOGINTHEWORLD

let's not forget that when the iPhone was released they told developers "you should make web apps for it", then they worked on the SDK, it got released and the thing is being a big success.
So since the app store is doing so great being the way it is for Apple, the tablet will be another closed platform tied to the app store.
They don't need Flash on that thing, they have a lot of people right now who already learned Objective-C and their APIs willing to keep the flow of apps coming.

flash isn't on there due to it being a resource hog. any money the tablet / slate will have it and if adobe streamlines the requirements or the iphone gets significantly more resources it'll have it. this has been covered time and time again by apple, jobs directly and adobe yet people keep banging on about it being some bullshit conspiracy.

CS5 you can write apps to the iphone, I expect you will have the same here. Not much of a consolation unfortunately.

From reading a few articles on this it does sound like there is a technical reason as well - flash and the mac processors don't like each other a lot. There's two things that make my MBP's fans kick on - filtering big ass files in photoshop and flash movies.
Supporting flash would not only bog down the iphone processor but it would kill the battery life as well.
That's not to say that there could be a solution out there.
oh, look, airey said pretty much the same thing. ^^

and really, i don't want to have to sort through thousands of shitty flash games like what you see on the ovi store.

"flash and the mac processors don't like each other a lot"
If you are gonna spout things at least know what you are talking about, they're the same processors as a generic PC
- flashbender0
Well, BIGGESTDOGINTHEWORLD, I'm sure you know more about everything than I do because all I know is certain flash sites - esp. 3D sites - kill my MBP processor but run OK on a pc.
So while it may not be the processor individually, it is the player, or something that makes the processor freak out and the fans go into overdrive.
