When I said that the main function of the human mind is to make order out of chaos - I was talking very generally .. because almost all of the things the brain does relate to filtering, organising and filing information. Daily life is full of 'noise', and our brains have to be good at detecting patterns to allow us to function as humans.
In terms of the conspiracy theory - I think the same process occurs, because our brains have a tendency to find order which functions at both micro and macro levels. Socially, we need to find reasons and associations between events, people and places to be able to live successfully.
I reckon that some people get a bit too carried away with possibilities though .. rather than ask how likely something is - they ask whether it's possible, and they then take a remote possibility and contort it into something that's they believe is true.
Thinking about this generally, I reckon it's strange how society seems to be starting to become more superstitious again.
Belief in science seemed to be the route to absolute truth, but now we have almost unlimited ways to communicate with people, ideas that basically amount to superstition seem to be gaining more ground.
Maybe it's almost as if some sections of society are imploding back to the middle ages?
Or maybe, subconsciously, the need for a 'god' is entirely necessary to the human condition - and these conspiracy theories are just enabling this concept to exist. In the old days, God would have most likely been the culprit for the Haiti disaster .. now, according to this poster, it's big government.
The idea of chaos and things happening for no reason at all is understandably terrifying to a lot of people. Having a reason, whether it's God - or a government research project, is going to reassure some people I suppose.
On one level or another, chaos is a concept that our brain's battle against every day of life.
- Nice, its a logical answer, but the problem is that some one else can come up with the opposite logical answer to the problem also.surfito

Ask yourself, how do you know anything? Is it possible some of us are working for the Illuminati as we speak?
