I like the possibilities.
It seems this could actually fit in where the Macbook Air was supposed to. I can definitely see carrying this around for general use, sitting on my balcony reading the news, taking to a meeting to show my reel or new projects, watching movies or internet surfing using wifi on an airplane... lots of situations where I hate taking my big MBP.
Ebooks are another great thing I like. My mom has the Nook, which is really cool, but for $150 more you can get this with a million more features.
- Nook uses e-ink technology, ipad doesn't..zaq
- yeah, I figured that out. Point?xcreonx
- whats e-ink?joseprieto

iPass.
I'm sure it's been said, but this should have had a full version of os x and that bezel looks ugly like a ripoff of something one of their competitors would do.
the only redeeming value i see is the continuing prospect for app developers (which is probably the reason they chose this OS over the desktop one).
- True, apple have missed an opportunity with not using OS X with the Ipad?********
- Apple didn't miss jack shit. The WHOLE POINT is that it's between an iPhone and a computer.monospaced

Only 64gB SSD max, cant play full HD, no flash, no cameras for conferencing.
Its basically an ipod touch for the short sighted....
- you're seriously shortsighted if that's all you think it ismonospaced

Does it run Adobe CS4? Because if it doesn't, I probably won't be getting one.
It would be great to run CS4 on a touch-screen, though!

i love how freaky everyone's getting over this. love vs. hate, etc. fact is, this thing does fill a void between iphone and laptop. and i can totally see amazon crapping its pants right about now...

To me, this is all about the money for Apple. They have a cash cow that works in the app store and they're basically exploiting it to create more revenue for their shareholders. When Jobs talked about all the credit cards that will work automatically with the device and all the people that already know how to use it – that solidified it for me.
This device is not "magical". No unicorns were harmed in the making of it. It's just another way to get you to buy shit in the app store. To me, it's an embarrassing beacon that they've kind of called it in on this one and aren't trying to innovate.... just make money on 3rd party software.
I couldn't give 2 shits if the thing was another quarter inch thicker and weighed a little more to accommodate a camera to allow for teleconferencing. I was hoping this would revolutionize the communications sector, but I think Apple now are the victims of their own success. The iPad just further highlights the innovation that the iPhone brought to consumers. It's totally overshadowed everything else the company does.

I want a computer I have to hold in my hand the entire time I am watching a movie.

Does it have a phone in it?

i think jobs wants to move a little slower and more strategically on building their user base. the problem with the mac has always been the limited 3rd party applications/games. now that they have 13 year olds (tomorrow's programmers) building little apps for a simpler platform they have a better shot at migrating them to os x later on. but it seem they want to go about that in a more thorough, and safer way, because today, os x development is still an obscure thing.
when i got into it two years ago, my only resources for carbon dev were the docs, apple mailing lists, and like macrumors forum. compare that to the hundreds of sites dedicated to windows programming. today, it hasn't changed much, but you sure can find a lot of iphone dev tutorials out there.

I'm with ProphetOne on this, I thought the hype was over the top but the negative blowback is too.
What was being rumored yesterday was a 9" touch screen device costing between $500-1000 that ran on the iPhone OS with 3G subscription service. People were Photoshopping Jobs into a picture of Moses.
Today they launch...a 9" touch screen device costing between $500-1000 that ran on the iPhone OS with 3G subscription service. And everyone is pissed? LOL
- i don't think anyone is pissed. just not impressed. and you said it, they delivered what we already predicted. anti-climaticSteveJobs

it would be nice if it was truly multi touch so more than one person could use it.
