China once again proves itself to the world that it’s the most promising and fast growing country in the world by unveiling the world’s fastest long distance passenger train — Harmony Express. The new passenger carrier can achieve an average speed of some 217mph with a top speed of close to 250mph.
The Harmony Express has surpassed the Japanese bullet trains and France’s TGV, both of which had services at speeds of around 188 mph per hour. On its debut journey on Saturday, it sped from Guangzhou to Wuhan, a distance of 688 miles in a time of less than 3 hours. The Wuhan-Guangzhou link will be the longest and fastest ever in China. It has taken around four years to build at a cost of $15 billion according to Xinhua, China’s official news agency.
The reduction in travel time is phenomenal, which could mean taking train is much faster and more convenient than airline considering the time cost on the way from city to airport and after getting off from airport to city.
The Chinese railways plans to complete high speed rail lines by the year 2012, in a bid to make the travel time between all provincial capitals in China less than 8 hours.Learn more at Wholesale Blog.

the mag lev is amazing. takes 7 minutes to do what takes 45 in a taxi. you also run next to the road so you can pretend you're in a fast car! a 270mph fast car.
I'm told they're building more mag levs. but if they can get bullet trains to run at 250, i don't see the point.

being mean is bad******** - China is surpassing the US in automobile purchases this year. I don't think they're going to be focusing on air pollution any time soon.Josev
- time soon.Josev
- That is exactly what they are doing by building trains instead of highways. China is also the fastest growing Wind Power market in the world. Yes, the pollution is bad all over China, but they're moving in the right direction much faster than the US.shemtheo

My last rant of 2010 :)

First let say that I've been commuting via train to work for the past 4 years and I would love to have a train like that, I lose almost 3 hours daily in public transportation.
So China made a fast train that will be able to commute faster between cities, thus reducing the amount of time you have to wait and also increasing the amount of people it can transport from point A to B in a short time.
I see china is investing more money in green alternative than the US or the entire world to be frank (ask Warren Buffet where his money is right now) http://www.cnbc.com/id/26916857

As for the debate about coal, you can't run anything on solar or wind right now, and for china having 4 times the population of the US, the US is still the biggest polluter per "capita" of this poor rock

China 6,017,000,000(total CO2 emm.) / 1,325,639,982 people = 4.53893 metric tons/person

USA 5,902,000,000(total CO2 emm)/304,059,724 people = 19.4106603 metric tons/person- http://www.guardian.…utopian
- I'm talking about the now and you're giving me hypothetical number. "I will become billionaire by 2030", prove me wrongGeorgesII
- wrongGeorgesII
- the US is still a bigger polluter than China per capita, but note that while the US output has stayed about the same over the last 20 years, China's has more than doubled. The problem is the rate at which they are industrializing.acescence

- make them stop producing our crap and it will work. not even the MACs are produced in the USGeorgesII

i read somewhere that the total cost to convert the entire world to renewable energy would be less than the total cost of war in the middle east. i'm not sure if it's true. but it's food for thought.
electric cars and trains that run stupidly fast and are free to power. woosh.
