How much is the average salary for and Interactive AD in New York?
Any rough estimates would be helpful.

75k-100k
- clearThoughts0
That's sort of what I had in mind, if you translate a London salary to $.
Is 75 to 100K good enough for New York? Can you afford a nice flat, car, etc.?
- car?johndiggity
- NopeMrDinky
- you can afford a car to live in it.hellojeehae
- then London is better than NY?
With a £40K salary you can have a car and a nice place. deffoclearThoughts - you can't save though.clearThoughts
- yeah, you can't do this for 75k, unless you're way out.showpony
- 75K is entirely reasonable. The possible lowest to eat/pay rent/Basic Lifestyle = Around 40K-50K a year.jteore
- That is without feeling homelessjteore
- not true. id live like a king for 35kerikjonsson

That salary is good enough for most, but like anywhere else, there are many factors.
For salary there's always the Aquent Survey: http://www.aiga.org/content.cfm/…

It really depends on what you consider "nice"
You can get a nice big two bedroom and a car, if you could do the 1 hour drive each way.

do you even need or want a car in NYC?
I'm assuming by NY you're talking about the city?
- Yes, but you'll pay several grand a month in rent. You can cut that in half by living outside the city adn beyond.harlequino

Interesting - just checking the AIGA chart, and it states that a 'solo designer' - freelancing with no employs earns in average roughly as much as an Art Director.

Just wanted to know if it's worth moving from London to NY to work as an Art Director - considering I already work as an Art Director in London.
- ifeltdave0
its worth it to go new places and try new things. if you end up broke, go back :)
- CyBrain0
Only if you want to live in New York.
I don't think anyone in advertising should move just for a job. You have to consider job security, or lack thereof.
- clearThoughts0
Sounds like you have to aim for around 90-100K if you want to make it worthwhile.
- MrDinky0
I would say 120k just to be safe.
- clearThoughts0
Yeah - I went to NY from London recently and I somehow ended up spending shit-loads of money.
Seems to be a lot more expensive than London at the moment.
- luckyorphan0
This depends almost entirely on your frame of mind and the career path on which the move would put you.
You say you're an Art Director in London. That's great, but is it at a place on a similar level to the shop in NYC? Would the move be a considerable bump to your career, regardless of the salary? Or is it more or less a lateral move and mainly for the change in scenery?
NYC is one of the most expensive places in the world, and it's true that a car is more or less unnecessary. However, sound, safe living quarters is something else entirely, isn't it.
That being said, if you're inclined to play it safe, I say go for the move. Even if it's a bad one, it'll build character and hopefully provide you with some good experience and portfolio work.

Just lay on the British accent, wear expensive jeans, mess up your hair and you'll get an instant promotion to Creative Director, they're suckers for the Queens brogue in NY...

get a job at a big shop that's doing well and they can pay you well enough. if you are moving to ny form london i doubt you are going to want to spend much time in your apt anyway. get a monthly metrocard and a zipcar membership and you will be a ok.
- fuckinglol_prophet0
You definitely do NOT need a car in NYC.
- MrDinky0
^ unless you live in NJ and maybe in certain areas in Queens / Brooklyn
- clearThoughts0
Well - yeah, I don't really give a f**k about the car. All I wanted to know if you'd live comfortable and maybe even able to put some dosh on the side with that salary.
