I'd much rather "DJ" on laptops, with mere beats and loops - homemade ingredients, live'n cooking. Fuck records.

Im with you eating_tv.... I sold my pair of 1200 m3d's at the beginning of the year in an effort to concentrate more on creating music... Not just playing others peoples tunes...
Now I spend most of my time in Ableton and Reason

Reason is serious!

Like all brands, Technics lost their luster. When I was a teenager have 1200's was like having an iPhone.
- clearThoughts0
Seriously - who on earth uses them?
I had my pair of 1200's under my bed for the last 4 years.

Plenty of people. Do you see a lot of hip hop DJs scratching with their MP3 players? What about Serato and Final Scratch, they require TTs and most people use them with Technics.
- The new Pioneers work with USB sticks and you can scratch and do the same thing as on 1200clearThoughts

I still use mine...
If I'm ever faced with the situation of "having to go digital" I'll probably just pack it in.. I'm not that good, I don't play many gigs, but fuck, even seeing someone on CDJ's, not mention just a laptop, turns me off...
all that said, I had take my records with me on thursday morning to work [on the tram and then the train which were both packed, I couldn't even put my record bag down] for a gig that I had that night and my back and shoulder is still absolutely fucked...

Actually I like digital but people who think vinyl is dead and gone are overstating the case. Every show I've been to lately has been some combo of Technics, CD players and laptop.
Try going to Boomkat or similar large music site, and you will see that the newest releases are all on vinyl for 3 weeks before they become available on digital (if ever). Also outside of dance music there is a large vinyl enthusiast market.
- Another interesting development is that Bleep which started off a download only is now selling vinylukit

audiophilia will not die, there will always be purists.

Yeah - but that niche market is not really going to keep the 1200's market alive.
There are enough Techniques out there to satisfy that market anyways.

Turntables are like photographic enlargers, or Linotype machines. The new technology is better, but some people want to sit and moan about the change.

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB…
World-wide sales of LP records doubled in 2007 (from three million to six million units) after hitting an all-time low in 2006, according to IFPI, the international recording industry trade association. Global sales of CDs dropped 12% in the same period, after having fallen 10% the previous year. Turntable sales in the U.S. increased more than 80% from 2006 to 2007 and continue to rise this year, according to the Consumer Electronics Association. "Last year and this year have been our busiest ever," says Kris Jones of London's Sounds of the Universe record shop, which sells more music on vinyl than on CD. "It's really crazy."

Yeah - If you already have the mp3 and want to buy a 'collectable' item, you might as well buy a Vinyl.
But big coroprates don't give a fuck about this, if something is not making enough money they ditch.
Same thing that happened with Polaroids.I have no doubt that a Polaroid can take more interesting pictures than any point n shoot $50 camera out there, but they stopped producing them because 99.5% of the population uses shitty digital cameras.

Yeah, I've always been skeptical of the claim that vinyl "sounds" better, and overall I'm in favor of moving on...just pointing out that sales (of records and TTs) are not dropping, they are up substantially.
More vinyl sold now than at any time since SoundScan starting measuring sales in fact. I realize that runs counter to the lil "storyline" you guys got going here so I'll be on my way...;P

I can honestly say that this piece of news will not in any way impact my life (I think).

hands down, the best turn tables made. truly the end of a very, very long era
