i am my government. at this moment part of my brain has fractured into a rebel militant group while a section is applying for immigration to another brain under political refugee status. unsurprisingly all public amenities have not worked well or at all in some cases for years and nobody can explain where all the money has gone. viva la me.

Oppression might be too strong a word, airey. Occupation is a better one. You have to have some sort of government, so you choose one. Then it has power over you. It can set laws over you, conscript you, tax you... It becomes an occupant of sorts, technically speaking.
Not that I'm complaining... Just trying to capture power system as a simple abstract model.We are quite lucky in the modern west these days, but it is not a given, we have to keep an eye on our governments, because power has a tendency to corrupt those in power – how obvious is that?

i see absolutely nothing wrong in working towards less government or keeping the government small and limited. Its proper to keep the government as the servant of the people and not the ruler. We are pretty free in comparison, and not free in others.. all comparisons are completely relative. And usually only used for perspectives. Its just important to keep all freedoms and liberties intact as much as possible and keep the power in check of governing bodies. Government has sole power of the use of physical force in order to protect us. However that use of force should not exceed its limited power dictated by strict laws. And as thus should not infringe on anyones basic liberties, unless those people are criminals and other such cases. If it does its likely a bad thing. Unfortunately to maintain such a balance requires a educated populace and as the size increases the oversight is much harder to do, so governments grow and it slowly snowballs out of control. Right now we dont have an educated populace. And by education i mean Education. A degree does mean they have an Education.... anyways, its always a good thing to try to have limited government and to maintain security of individual rights. ... oh and for those people spouting healthcare is a right, its not... a good sign of the current education.

There are no more true "republicans" or whatever that means anymore. We can't be without gov. for the time being; we just aren't capable as a society. However working towards less gov. interaction in our daily lives and paychecks is not bad. To constantly remind them that they are OUR institution and only there because of us is not bad either. And going forward in our economy, maybe the gov. should take a lesson from small cash only business's. Only play with money you got not moneys your projecting to bring in. Oh and as for health care, it should be free for everyone; especially here, just take 2% of our defense budget and BOOM everyone has free health care we're only less 2 bombs. I'm okay with that.

Hey dan its not that it should be free it's that you would like it to be free. I would like free lawn care. But i know to have that i'd need a black kid to work for free. Or to work for pay and have someone else pay the kid. Its ethically wrong. And if you put your desire over others, then they can put theres over you. Now as far as gov support using those funds. Well those funds can be given back to the people and its their personal responsibility to use them for their own good. But most of the funds would return the rich because most of the money came from them.... seems like a backwards approach to theft if u think it should be divided evenly. And also the gov has plenty of public options. All of which are failing and increasing the costs for everyone. You should find out why that is. Also you should see that the government gives hella tax breaks for companies to provide insurance to its employees already. What are the consequences of plenty of insured citizens never using insurance or knowing what their policy is when the company pays for the majority of it? How does it effect costs? Currently we are not smart enough to pull it off, and we also cant afford to do it. In a surplus i can see agreeing to small limited help, but investment kind of help....but thats assuming the surplus is because of a smarter populace. You know i read some on switzerlands healthcare options, and they seem ok. They're reasonable and the people are more educated which controls costs. They seem to have earned it, we haven't.
