I didn't think there was a dumber argument than Mac vs. PC, but I'm sure as hell certain now that it's Presta valves vs. Schraeder valves.

schraeder all the way.

I've never heard of this being an argument...
Like it's a choice? Depends on what kind of tires you're running. If you're a MTBer or BMXer you're running Schrader. If road wheels, Presta.
- mtn is all presta yo. maybe shitty mountain is schrader.oblib

I run presta on both my mtn and road bikes. What's your argument with running schraeder on a mtn bike?
- seems delicate for a mtn bike. i rarely see them used. then again, i don't often hang out with the mtb crowd.********
- I'd say that's debatable. I also think presta is your only option if you run a tire tubeless.grymes
- I've never seen a 3.25 tyre with presta?zarkonite
- Is that a question?grymes
- have you?zarkonite
- Sounds like a downhill tire. I assume not, but I only ride XC.grymes

My norco DH is schraeder but my Trek XC has presta... I prefer presta.
When my shraeder tyre is totally deflated (say on a pinch flat) and I gotta re-inflate it it's harder to do it quickly cuz it sinks back in, the presta valve stays put nicely.

It's just that Presta is a huge inconvenience. A friend was over last night, and we aired up his tires with Presta valves, and the front tire valve broke. I've got that little adapter screw on thing for my small portable pump, but somehow the tube or valve broke.
What if you have Presta and don't have that adapter? What if you need to air up at a gas station or somewhere with compressed air?
It was just funny; he said "these are the best tubes."
- I keep a value adapter in my car, commuter back and pack I bike with. Done.grymes

My seigler has a presta valve... but i could care less

seems people want to either somehow put the presta valve through schraeder holes or just change from shraeder over to presta.

I've had years of happy mountain biking and BMXing with Schraeder valves. Now I'm on the singlespeed bandwagon, and both my Presta valves let our air last week.

well first of all a gas station pump isn't quite the same valve as a schrader so some newer ones won't even work anyway, and those that do often can't get near the psi required to fill my road tires.

- there are other things like this on the marketversion3
- I've got a few of those. I had Presta for a while when I bought them accidentally for my mtb bikemg33
- I think it bent the presta screw last night. those compact pumps... gotta be careful with those.mg33
- i made a pipe out of pieces like this once. smoked dried leaves. good times.lambsy

also schrader typically are for lower psi wheels

presta for convenience, schrader for durability. isn't that why they exist as they do?

Kirk vs. Picard

Presta for two good reasons:
the knurled nut that holds the valve to the rim. No jiggly valve when you're trying to inflate with a hand pump. Less chance of cutting the tube at the stem from friction.
the twist-lock on the valve is a bit of extra security over schraeder's spring only valve.
bonus points for a smaller valve hole (= stronger rim)

- rim... stronger rim.monNom
