I have posted before when I was looking for a drive with RAID.
But I decided to keep it simple and go with 2 seperate 1tb external hard drives. One will be mainly storage - and just a duplicate of the other. And the main one I will work off of.
Suggestions highly appreciated!

Also I am looking for brands and models people trust - have had for at least a couple years without fail.
I have had bad luck with Lacie and WD so I am trying to lean away from those.

Separately purchased enclosure and drive usually offers you 3-5 years of warranty for the drive itself and allows you to do what you want with the drive (and save your data) in case the enclosure fails – this usually voids warranty of prepackaged solutions.
- As long as you don't play hardware technician with prepackaged drives, you also have warranties on them, thse days most brands doMeeklo

This has 2 internal drives. You can either set up a 2 TB drive or a 1TB drive with a full backup.

I heard good things about Oyen Digital, they're hot-swappable and quieter than NewTek's Guardian Maximus
http://oyendigital.com/hard-driv…- "Guardian Maximus" is AWESOME.akrokdesign
- Is it loud?raf
- like an AIRCRAFT! lol. it's okay.akrokdesign
- but what drives are in it? western digital? they only make the enclosureacescence
- They don't sell it in Europe, but I'd buy drives separatelyraf

I should have mentioned - I am looking to spend around 200 bucks total. I only need 2tb's so the bigger ones are not of use to me at this point.

You might want to upgrade your computer's internal drive and get a single external one...

an important point to note is that only a handful of manufacturers make the drives themselves, a lot of companies just make the enclosure and package it up. if you want it on the cheap, just get internal drives and enclosures separately and put them together yourself. it's easy and you get exactly the drive inside that you want. check out newegg for good deals. i've had good luck with seagate, western digital, hitachi, IBM.

What is the drawback of not having a firewire 800 port?

I am a bit flexible on budget. Most importantly is I have at least one of them is capable of being the fastest possible - which I assume is Firewire 800.
