Someone on macrumors made a great point about a physical keyboard in this day and age: For every non-English speaking country, a different keyboard is required.
With the iphone, all it requires is a change in software to accommodate other languages. Simple as that. No assembly changes required.
And what does "iDon't Customize" mean anyways? Is that a hit at the iphone icon layout? Uh, last I checked I could move those around all I wanted to.
- some people just prefer using regular keyboard..give them choice..GRAC
- I hate these arguments...somethin... is bad b/c it would cost more to implement?Machuse
- who cares how hard it would be to change the keyboard, thats the manufacturers problemMachuse
- Cost for multiple language keboqrds would skyrocket cost to us.74LEO

I saw the commercial and It got me excited..
everything it says its true, I dont really think a physical keyboard is a positive, thing though.. I was skeptic at first but once you use it, you like it more than the buttons. They should have said..
iDon't get any reception ever..
or something like that..

I personally hate the iphone keyboard and I know a lot of people do as well. Its not always function in cold conditions or if your fingers are a little wet.

I guess my point is, asthetics matter. All cell phone companies are failing at making anything near as elegant and simple as the iphone. it's not 1985 anymore. For a phone to look like that is just sad.

- it has three buttons raised up onto the screen like that? odd.kona
- they look like touch buttons to me... not raised?********
- These are not photos.duckofrubber
- they look like that have a bevel to them and are raised up on the glass. (top photo)kona

Here's a response on the macrumors forum that takes the words right out of my mouth:
-------
I looked at Verzon's list closely and realized that it's a very "who cares" list....My thoughts...
1) Real Keyboard - iDon't care. With the newly-added Horizontal mode for texting and emailing, I type super-fast.
2) Simultaneous Apps in the background - iDon't care. My battery life thanks Apple for not allowing every app to run in the background.
3) 5MP Photos - iDon't care. 3MP is good enough for now. Couple that with the 3GS's ability to shoot and trim video, I'm doing just fine, thanks. Within a year or so, 5MP will be standard. Anything bigger than 3MP, I simply bring my Nikon D90, thank you.
4) Customize - iDon't really understand this one.... not a lot to comment on.
5) Widgets - iDon't care. The iPhone DOES run 85,000 apps, so what's the diff?!
6) Allow open development - iDon't care. There's too much ballyhoo over "Open standards this & Open standards that" -- Apple does use tons of open standards. Every developer is making money on the App store and Apple is too. Sounds like a fair arrangement... I just know that I have my pick of almost 100,000 apps so again, iDon't care.
7) Pictures in the dark - a flash would be nice. One for Droid.
8) Rechargable batteries - iDon't care. My phone has plenty of juice and it's super slim, trim and quite sexy with the curves. The Droid looks so square and ugly. I'll take sexy, thank you. I can charge anywhere there's electricity (everywhere- thanks 21st century) -- at home, in the car, at work. Plus if that's not enough, I can buy a "Juice Pack" -- no big deal, especially at the cost of its beautiful design. Honestly, I have never owned a secondary battery for a cell phone. No need. The phones give me what I need.
Lame list.
I'll stick with Apple.
- I don't own a "smart" phone yet, but I have to agree with this post as well.monospaced
- all these points are cop outs haha i mean really, having more than one app open doesn't eat battery life ha!********
- if they run constantly in the background checking in, establishing connections, they willlambsy
- +1cashface
- battery life on iphone sucks, and why wouldn't you want more MP if its an issue on any other electronic gadget? points 2 and 3 are bogusMeeklo
- It just so happens that you don't care about all the categories in which the iPhone lags? ...BRNK
- You know what this makes you, right? Fanboy.BRNK

what's the gold square thing on the right? biometrics or is that how you navigate? looks like typical motorola tech. at least it's not another version of their razr.

android phones come with touchscreen software as well.
mg33 jumps at the chance to shit on htc phones at any chance he gets.
its amusing to me.

Bonseff,
Maybe it's just a matter of taste, but when i hear the words "iPhone killer" shouldn't I expect that the thing not look cheap? Is Jonathan Ive the only decent product designer out there?
- you should be happy products like these come out... they will only make the ipone better to compete with options it currently does not offer.********
- does not have********
- apple doesn't rely on competition to innovate. that's why they do it so welllambsy
- apple did not invent the wheel********
- yeah they did http://cache.gizmodo…********
- yeah i think that wheel was pretty much the foundation for all of thisSugary

I've tried the touch screen keyboard on the iPhone, G1, and the MyTouch. I didn't try them for too long, but I'm not a fan of touch keyboards.
Or do you get used to it once you use it more?
- it was weird at first but I got used to it. Most people seem to say the same thing, unless they have fat doctor fingers.mg33
- i've had both... i'll stick with my blackberry********
- i just converted two blackberry users to the iphone. they now hate their old blackberry keybaords and like the iphone interface better.kona
- 's 'keyboard' better. i don't know how anyone can type by pressing in a 10mm x 10mm button.kona
- I just don't trust sliding devices like that. Seem very fragile. Likely a cheap build anyways. How else do they sell them for so cheap?mg33
- so cheap?mg33
- I guess it's a matter of getting used to it.kgvs72

Physical keyboards are prehistoric. They will eventually cease to exist

I like it. I'm starting to develop a hatred for apple products, as they keep failing on me. My ipod touch wont hold a charge anymore, my macbook pros disc drive doesnt work, nor does the A key (on my pc right now), my mighty mouse is the worst mouse ever designed.
Im getting close to dumping all of this.
- More evidence that PC hardware never fails...EVER. Macs are such pieces of shit. lolmonospaced
- are you on crack********
- sounds like bad luck. did you stomp a pigeon or something in the past year?mg33

Well... I just ordered it. I dig the iPhone, but loathe AT&T. Their service in Chicago is shit. There is a touch screen keyboard on the Droid, admittedly not as elegant as the iPhone's, but it works just fine. The phone is fast as hell and is truly killer in other areas. The sound quality is pristine. It also comes with a 16gb card.
I don't really care about the iPhone comparisons, Verizon's network is the best around and the Droid is the best hardware they've got at the moment.
Tuesday is the day...
- AT&T doesn't work in my apt.... verizon is spotty in Hyde Park, even cricket works better(!)vaxorcist

i think typing is easier on the sliders then iphones. Texting is big business. Inputing internet searches is big business
- ETM0
They're all just pieces of hardware. There's no right and wrong to pick what works best for you. I'll never understand the personal stake some people put into defending the honor of their inanimate objects or large companies.

mg33,
"Bonseff,

Your assumption is incorrect, when you hear the phrase
"______ Killer"automatically is telling you is going to suck big time..
Can you think of a single time when that cheap marketing phrase actually became true?
