$$$$$$ - Freelance and project to project basis
...or $$$ - Full time w benefits?
- jimbojones0
if it's really $$$$$$ do the math ffs
- shinpo0
Money - because with money you can produce stability, but with with stability you may or may not have money.
- bort0
Freelance doesn't always equal $$$$$. I'm a freelancer and continually go through very dry patches. If you're some kind of AS3 or Drupal dynamo you'll clean up – if you're a regular print designer or front-end developer be ready to hustle hard for something even resembling stability.

Which do you need more – the benefits or the flexibility? Do you need the health coverage?
- most important; traveling a few times a year....a great medical plan would be nice...hourly means I'm getting paid for the shittiest of tasks.hellogoodbye
- shinpo0
Don't worry about health coverage - Obama is taking care of that.
- Hope you don't get sick, if it's serious and even have insurance, you're fucked and will never know stability again.DrBombay
- It's the American way...DrBombay

Can contractors have awesome insurance comparable to FULLTIMERS....and if so how much would it be /yr?
- Do you have any pre-existing conditions?luckyorphan
- Mine was $8k / year, in Canada... it was for dental, vision, loss of revenue and the meds that aren't already covered by the gov.zarkonite

no such thing as stability!
*takes the money
- hallelujah0
stability is usually an illusion, as utopian states above
- but the illusion of stability can sometimes help allay the anxiety of lifehallelujah

i'f you're younger, don't have a mortgage or kids then hustle the freelance, the experience will do you well down the line. don't try for stability if you don't immediately need it plus the gfc has shown that even the concept of stability can be a bit of an illusion.
- vaxorcist0
Fulltime != stability...
Many companies get bought and lay everyone off or randomly decide to change direction, lose big clients, consolidate, etc....... so even if you "are fulltime" you should be planting seeds.....
Also note that $$$$ freelance = $$$ fulltime due to taxes, insurance and other costs...
- vaxorcist0
Freelance may give you a better folio too..... some FT gigs are cool for a few months, then turn into a maintenance job with meetings and tweeking and not much new....
- MrT0
In comparison to freelance, full time meaning stability is a bit of a fallacy right now. If you're good, aren't greedy and don't behave like a bumhole who thinks they're what design has been waiting for, you'll be OK with either route.
- akrokdesign0
full-time don't mean anything, as one day they can just tell you the get the fuck out. we can't afford you. sorry.

the smartest thing anybody ever said to me in terms of work was "you will lose every client you ever had"
this is also true for employers
- and, in fact, life.airey
- although you really only lose the one. still, it is technically still 'every life you ever had'.airey
- except for your mom, airey, she is eternal to mehallelujah

- Rand, I assume you mean in terms of not being able to take them with you into the ground.gramme
- actually mum always said the 3-way she had with hallelujah and his dad was a pretty decent night-in. fair do's.airey
- LOLhallelujah
- gramme, no, I meant prior to the ground, losing them all within the normal course of a careerhallelujah

Money.
Stability is already set up through government handouts and welfare checks, food stamps ect. Therefore you should go all out because there is already a welfare state set up if you choose to fail.
- money can't buy happiness. but it can buy a jet-ski and nobody looks unhappy on one of them. - daniel toshairey
- I'd love to fight Fred McWoozy...DrBombay
- Never said it was for happiness but money brings exploration.FredMcWoozy
