any recommendations for a non-apple display for a Macintosh G5?

No. Because anything less is just un-civilised.

old box. why non-apple? just find and old apple cinema display on the cheap.
if you're gonna work on a PPC you might as well look good.

and for the record my old alum 20" apple cinema display is 5 years old and still going strong. outlasted my g5. i now use it as a 2nd display, but still consider it my most accurate color. the extra usb and firewire ports are a bonus.

Yes, I would prefer an apple display- but I was looking for something a little less costly for use on a machine that's main function is for email, web, music piracy, ect....

20 inch apple monitors are very nice, easily calibrated and, with your G5, make your gear look "almost brand new" to the client who doesn't know any better..
