Do you guys just sit and look at the OSX desktop and masturbate all day, or do you use software on these machines? Web browser, email client, graphics software has fuck all to do with the OS once it is launched.
- Wow, someone with some sense!
well said sir.Hombre_Lobo - I sit around and masturbate all day.utopian

I work on a PC. Mainly because that was the first OS that I used.
I don't understand the assumption that I'm a poor designer simply because of the platform I'm using. Illustrator is the same product on both machines.

Times my Macbook Pro has shut down unexpectedly since March 2008: 1, maybe 2.
Times my PC shut down in a year before I gave up and got a Mac. DOZENS AND DOZENS AND DOZENS.

also, 'I have never met an authentic and or talented designer that worked on a PC. I do know some amazing accountants, video gamers and slackers that use a PC. Please name me one, just one talent designer that uses a PC and post his/her website link here, thank you.'

I gotta say I am working with apple on my macbook which has cracked a second time. I truly 'baby' this machine as I do all of my equipment. Apple agreed to replace it for free again...but they have completely fucked up the repair 4 times....the computer came back worse than I sent it, they replaced an optical drive the second time and didn't even look at the case, then they gave me the wrong keyboard.
They have too many customers to service and now we get crappy support and shitty [the plastic mac book] design. I am rethinking my long history as a customer.
I have never had a previous problem but this one has gotten out of control to a point where I am starting to take it personally.
Any one want to buy a brand new macbook?

I stayed out of this convo but honestly, unless you need microsoft to do something a mac can't do yet, os x is a sheer and utter joy to use over microsoft. It just works. I have never had a problem with apple hardware either, aside from the shitty mightymouse, I have owned powermacs, imacs, macbooks, all have been rock solid and completely reliable. OS X is like a dream compared to windows.

"Cant get much over a year out of this $2000 apple"
Titanium Powerbook here still working, still running the same battery/hard drive/screen/DVD drive it came with

Also, as previously mentioned in this thread, you hear many people saying "real designers use mac's".
Most ridiculous thing ive ever heard. A real designer (or intellectual) would understand that your computer is just a tool to reach your desired outcome, xp, mac whatever.

CygnusZero4:
Ive got a $500 HP laptop that's 8 years old and still rockin. Cant get much over a year out of this $2000 apple. Shit products. Im off the bandwagon.Glad to hear it!
Dont get me wrong, the way mac OS works is great, modular OS is the way forward (which is why i dual boot xp-ubuntu), but i just dont get on with Mac's. They are quite over priced too
.
That and ive also met too many pretentious apple bumming iphone riding wankers at design events to ever want to own a mac.

i am a mac advocate but i do have a massive issue. there is no support for legacy mac products. i've got a pre-intel G5 which is virtually a paper weight because i can't upgrade any of the software.
- 'any'?ribit
- I have a G4 powerbook, still works, how is it a paperweight unless you are a version junkie?comicsans
- Have updates for 10.5 stopped coming?raf
- all new tingatings is intel onlyerikjonsson
- I have the Snow update, you're not missing out and I'm sure they'll support 10.5 too, at least security-wiseraf

- why does it rotate clockwise?ribit
- no shit, clock-wise rotation makes it just about impossible to readmonospaced_III
- its from a Ghost in the shell: SAC
I believe it rotates like this because its a japanese cartoon.

If you buy an Apple and don't realize you're paying at least in part for image, then you shouldn't buy an Apple. Regardless, isn't good design worth it? Even if Incase products fell apart in a few months, wouldn't you have enjoyed those few months relatively more than a few months with some knockoff casemaker?
The best you could do is argue that both Dell and Apple have pluses and minuses that correspond directly to the different consumers they target. There's no way in hell PCs in general are better overall than Apple.
- Apple's case hardware is worth it. It can be described as beautiful, even.monospaced_III

Wankers argument.
Apple products are as bad as any others. If the fanbois think otherwise, more power to you.
