Poor Hitchens...

what are you talking about you sillly little man, I've listened to this debate between these 2 several times, and it is clear that while Hitchen's understands, deals with, and ultimately rejects his opponents points, Lane really at no point demonstrates any true understanding of Hitchen's.
Intellectually they are, are you point out - poles apart...Sometimes I really do feel sorry for your wasted youth, and hope that one day you will contribute to our world more clearly and productively, Steven - as I've said before I find you irritating and wrong on almost all the points you ever make on this site, but to a fault well-natured, educated and intelligent...please develop the emotional and intellectual maturity required to break out of your cosy little tunnel, embrace the big questions about life that religion claims to answer but does not, and join the scary, often pointless, often hopeless, beautiful and mysterious world we so briefly inhabit.

Re: Hitchens' audio book. Too bad he is reading it. There is no consistency to his voice. It is either too quiet or too loud. They should've had someone else read it, but I'm sure there are budget concerns at work.

it's not religion that fucks everything up, it's how people use religion. and yes, you could say 'guns don't kill people...' but that's not quite the same thing.
still, it would be nice if the 7 jewish bankers that run the world from an underground bunker could lend me a few coins.
- no, religion itself requires one to submit to an unalterable celestial dictatorship in which one is less than whole..mikotondria3
- you say that like it's a bad thing?airey
- ask the people of North Korea what that's like, as I'm sure Mr H would be the first to encourage..mikotondria3
- meh, if they can't tackle the dmz they shouldn't have an opinon anyway.airey

Jaylarson - I have about 50 hours of him speaking at various engagements and so on, and actually very much enjoy the sound of his voice. I have an audiobook of his 'Portable Atheist' read bu someone else, and its just not the same. Mind you, I am a total fan-boy, I will admit, guy shits gold in my opinion - really one of the great minds of our age, his works have proven an absolutely incalculable boost to my education, and caused me to think in ways I had not done before, and become interested in a great many new areas of culture and literature that I would not have.
All in all, great bloke, balls of steel, cock-sure of what he does know, and wise and humble enough to know what he doesn't.- yeah, i'm down with what he has to say, but he'll have a very regal presental and then fade off.... ish but listenable. i guess.jaylarson

That's horrible, hope he makes it through. At the same time, what can you expect when you chain smoke your way into middle age?
- it is a young man's game. If you smoke after 35 you're really asking for trouble. Fucking cancer, what a cunt it is.mikotondria3

I dunno if he will "make it" to be honest guys. Cancer of the esophagus is generally not associated with high survival rates. Then again, he has the benefit of money I guess.
Googling Hitchens led me to this column where he reviews one of Michael Moore's movies - a reminder that, despite his anti-religious views which tend to be shared more often by liberals, he wasn't at all "left wing" when it came to foreign policy.

I'm pretty sure that's the only time I ever heard anyone use the word "excremental."
