and to actually answer the question that started the thread, i've known a few people who were pc users try and stay the course but to be honest the issues they've come against are mainly the lack of ability to swap resources - things like fonts and software were obviously harder to 'borrow' off people so for all the money saved on the actual machine purchase they had to then go legit to get the software. now that fonts are going opentype and the software is pretty cheap people can choose whatever platform they like.
- your friends had a hard time finding pirated software for windows?!?!!?!? wow.zarkonite

my brother is a developer, he switched from windows pc to mac back when they released the first linux OS, then back to a windows rig because he wanted to get into 3d stuff and Apple sucks in regard to gpu support, so that´s that. the other (web)devs are still on macs, they like it, no talk about switching back.

Marvellous response sir. My provocation is not worthy.
You're missing my point however. The tool is irrelevant, I completely agree. A lot of the work I and many others here find inspirational came from a time before this argument existed.
All I'm saying is that graphic designers tend to stick to Macs. I would bet a large sum of money that this is the case for the majority.
There is the momentum of 20+ years of design for print, using fonts and print shops running Macs, that has shaped this.
If this was simply a decision here and now about which tool should anyone choose, go for it, otherwise like me there's a lot of history and experience and no reason to change. Why should I?
- i actually figured you were cracking a joke so it wasn't a rant at you sir!airey

"as a development tool pc wins for me."
If you think that you're probably using Dreamweaver, nothing on the PC can compete with Textmate and the Mac scripting environment- e is the same dude!trooperbill

Don't know how to pick up and carry your iMac G5? It's easy. Before moving your computer, make sure all cables and cords are disconnected.
Pick up the iMac G5 by grasping both sides of the computer. Carry it to wherever you wish.

Im gonna have to go with airey. Since when are mac users better designers? Maybe its true that a majority of designers use macs, but I am really not seeing how using illustrator/indesign/photoshop on a mac magically puts out better work. If you're shitty on a pc, you're shitty on a mac. This argument of pc vs mac should probably stay away from that area and just stick to os/hardware. I work on both and they have their negative and positives.
P.S. I hate vista, but I am looking foward to 7 if it's anything like xp, with that new xp compatibility mode.

Yeppers! Just built myself an E8600! 570$ to upgrade from dual 2,2Ghz to 3.3Ghz. Not only are the parts smaller they're also more silent. it's a dream!
Has anyone tried solid state drives yet? I was considering using one as my main drive.
