Sauteing garlic: Heat the pan and THEN put the oil in, or put the oil in and then heat the pan? Or does it matter?

Get the pan to a good medium temperature, add oil, allow it to heat, then add garlic.

the oil just has to get hot
if you put the garlic in first .. it will probably burn; i think it's better to add it once you've got other stuff in the pan

don´t know if or why it would be better, but mommy said to heat the pan first

always heat the pan first.

Well, this is how it came out:

the video taught me that you need to heat the pan before putting the oil in the pan, to stop your food from sticking... and if you want to be a show off - you can use splashes of water to find out the exact right moment to put the oil in the pan.

i've always though about getting one of those spray canisters for oil.. do any of you use those?

I picked up a garlic slicer / mincer over the weekend. Always wanted one...

If you use a nice olive oil, you can tell it's warm enough when you turn the pan, it glides around nicely. Then add your garlic.

as i scroll through this thread.... i have a nice garlic press, and an herb/garlic mincing knife as well as a mortar and pestle (i like bruising/crushing herbs/spices).... but for my time/money/quality - a sharp knife minces best - typically something like this...
but to get back on point - put nice extra virgin olive oil in to a warm pan then heat to full temp.
