anyone use this instead of cable or dsl? Trying to get connectivity set up in a rural part of the catskills.

Is there telephone service availble there? I think you need modem to upload, dish to download for most commercial satellite internet services. You can do the full satelite method (Sat phone + data) but it's extremely expensive.

My parents have it at their lakehouse.... fairly good download, somewhat slower, more latency in upload.... FTP can work well, SSH not so much....

Don't bother. Bought it for my parents to replace dial up. Shit is slow as hell, super bad latency, spotty in weather and expensive for what it is. Tech support in case of a storm or anything (bad wind in upstate ny near Hunter Mountain). My parents are right in the Hunter Mountain area and it's been nothing but a nightmare. I'm also locked in for 2 years to get a decent price.
