Last long unemployment I have had, I spent time doing personal projects. I went to school. And played Counter Strike.

Sounds like fun. Did you get a check every two weeks?

I didnt look for a job after I got fired.

I got a big severance package and they hired me back for 3 months consultant after I got fired so I charged them what they would charge the client.

Durning the dot com bust, I went back to uni and did a masters. Have just finished paying it off, but was definately the best thing at the time.

This is my second stint on the unemployment line, first after the dot com bust, that was 8 months, really brutal, and now since march. But freelance has been decent, waiting for things to turn around. Seems like things are getting better, summer is usually slow anyway.

I just had my first interview out of school after almost 3 months of applying. I don't think I got the job since they haven't called or emailed me back. It's tough.

my wife's a recruiter, and therefore a pretty good source for how the industry as a whole (in nyc) is doing... things are slow, but definitely been picking up consistently over the past several months. for the most part, there have been more freelance hires than staff, but that, i suspect, will change over the next few months.

That's encouraging

it's picking up.

an other issue might be that they never hire anyonein the first place. i keep seeing the same ads, all over again. even places i been to interview at.
bananas!
- ...anyone in the first place...

- yea, i feel like companies are just getting a feel for who's available out there with no intention to hire anytime soon.JonnyPompa

Have been unemployed for almost 3 months. I run, hang out with my dog, help out friends with home improvement stuff, job search, and small freelance stuff when I can find it.
Many of the jobs I've applied haven't been filled yet. No one is in a hurry to hire. Even if they're hiring, they're being conservative and taking their time.

Yeah I am searching here in the Philly area. I think things are slowly picking up. Ive been learning letterpress in the meantime, and I get freelance from time to time. I need something though!

It's gone very quiet for me at the moment as well, first time I've not really had much lined up beyond the next week or two.

i was laid off, moved back to my home state and i wasn't really feeling the j-o-b scene. i actually found a job in california while i was teaching (long story, good life experience), but i didn't take it. some people think im crazy for not going through with it...it didn't feel right. i have been unemployed for a total of 3 months...really 6 months out of the "field".
good luck to you all. give me some back, ya'll yo'ers

I was made redundant two months ago and have hardly had a day without freelance work since... Things seem to be pretty good here in Sydney

Aye- the world be tough these days.
Haven't worked (except for my own apps I've been wanting to build), since May. Have been laid off twice in the past 10 months. sucks but keep learning at least.
