i twittered about them once and one of the guys confronted me, and stated it was created by designers and if i wanted to talk on the issue we could discuss. I wrote back, and got no answer from then on out.

What they are really doing that is smart is they are slapping a more appealing face on outsourcing.
If you look at a lot of the designers on there, and especially the slightly better (or least bad) ones, they are mostly from third world countries where people don't mind doing a logo for $200.
Traditionally it would be considered risky and kind of second rate for me to go find a designer in India, former Soviet Bloc etc. But with "99 Designs" there is a trusted brand name behind it and the outsourced nature of the work is not out there in front.

you know what. this is the other side of the coin. you know how you have to outsource the printer as the client do not want to pay for a local printer (plenty of them are gone now). well, same shit here.
this lowers the price as clients find out they can get a logo for 200 etc. i know you going to say, but their work is shitty. which is true but the client, some of them. only looks at numbers. $$$.
