Hahaha....Williamsburg invaded by homeless heroin trust fund babies. Hipster families are going into bourgeois rage over it...
" 'It's like St. Marks in the '70s,' said Williamsburg activist Philip DePaolo, referring to the notorious East Village hangout. 'It's the bad old days all over again. There's crack and heroin all over the neighborhood.'
The squatters, from middle-class families, hop freight trains to the city, where they can earn up to $150 a day panhandling in Manhattan. At night, like plenty of other borough commuters, they return to their homes: grubby hideaways inside boarded-up lots that pock the once-booming neighborhood.
The vagrants - who also call themselves "crusty punks" - swarmed into Williamsburg this spring, drawn by open-minded young people and vacant lots."

my neighborhood here in Chicago (wicker park) is having the exact same problem. we call em crusties. they line milwaukee ave, near the four corners with their cleverly written signs and their reductive color palette of muddy browns

i have been noticing a lot of syringes lying around the streets lately, heroin seems to be heavy in the neighborhood.. rather scary times for everyone here...

theres a lady that lives near me who lives in quite a nice Mews Cottage, i've seen her out begging in edinburgh city centre a few times.
if you had the bottle to do this then you could easily make a fair wack each day from begging to tourists in the touristy areas.
I used to go out with a lass who'd make a few hundred quid each day from busking with her violin.

the other sick thing is if they are squatting in "stalled" projects, here in williamsburg is an endless amount of those... all i see is construction sites half complete.... it really makes the neighborhood feel crap and ugly..

The day I found myself pennyless and alone, I stopped complaining about hobos.
nothing better than a good glass of reality to put yourself in check. don't complain too much about them because in 6 months you may end up in their shoes.- I'm talking about the hard working person that lost everything, not the hipster oneGeorgesII

"The girls here like it that I'm dirty and I ride trains," he added.

Those aren't crust punks... anyways, the whole panhandling deal works better if you're younger. I made about $60 in one hour (with no effort either) in Manhattan, but likely because I just looked like a ragged kid. And this idea– of invading Williamsburg in this way– actually seems like an ingenius idea, even though I'd be pissed if I lived there.. I have an idea but I have to shower and go to work so later dudes

The best way to avoid them is to just stay in the limo.
