I'm thinking of dropping the overpriced comcast tv service and relying on hulu, netflix, online, etc.
Anyone who's abandoned their cable tv and set-up a desktop in its place? Pros and cons? Suggestions on kit?

If you have an XBox you can play your movies wirelessly.

TV sucks... Only reason I still have cable is because the wife and kids watch it. The ONLY reason I even watch regular TV is for the college and pro games during the football season. I watch hulu, netflix (and sometimes joost) on a regular basis.

I can't keep up with all this technology. It's very discouraging.

dropped everything mainly cause I play lots of video games
so I have a Nintendo Wii that I use to watch youtube videos on the TV , never tried Hulu on Wii but I don't see why it would not work .
netflix via xbox 360 ,
and since I still have basic TV , I can watch sports here and there

In the same boat. Dropped cable tv and use Netflix/Hulu for almost everything. Wii is useless as far as media goes. My room mate and I have a computer hooked up to our TV through HDMI so we can download movies/tv shows from wherever and watch it locally or on either one of our computers. Also have a PS3 for games/bluray. No room for cable in there.

I highly recommend this.

I use the PS3 and tversity. The only problem I have is I just can't get subtitles to work from SRT files over the wifi to the PS3. I have heard people have done it but can't get the settings right on FFDshow

The above description is basically for video files I have on the network. As far as online tv goes, I just have hulu, freshversa and a few other sites bookmarked in the PS3 browser.

I have this thing in my garage to stream audio and video wirelessly. It works pretty good, but I have since built a canopy in the yard and it messes with my reception a bit.
