have these been refinished.. don't they usually have a cane/wicker back?
my folks still have a set of some cheap ikea knockoff.

"Designed by Marcel Breuer for Knoll in 1928"... google Breuer chair.

obviously it each to their own but they look awful to me. that nasty period of 80's that thought shiny stainless was 'the future'. saying that, i hated it then so i'm probably just an old crotchety bastido.

"The Breuer chair is the world's most popular chair"
... sorry but can't be worth all that much. and now that i see more images i'm pretty sure my folks have the exact same ones. always trying to dish the set of 6 on me.
- shouldn't it be 'arguably the most popular", that way they can't be sued over falsehoods.airey

I mostly hate cantilever chairs.

those are nice for being cheap piles of doody. i gave a set of them away once. the wicker ones are especially bad.

Haha. Some awesome responses in here.
The chairs haven't been refinished. They are not knock offs and even have the original Knoll stickers on the bottom.
I don't believe they're wicker chairs that have been modified.
Anyone know any history on the velvet ones?
- probably a period of design that when knoll was suffering from hep b+c and syphilis.airey

they were featured in A Nightmare on Elm Street... watch it... the scenes in the kitchen!!! omg crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm sorry, but I doubt that Marcel Breuer made those chairs with velvet seats and backrests

Guess drunken QBNers aren't fans of the chairs.
No worries. You all can sit on the floor at my next dinner party :)

I think they're great, I just think they were were altered considerably. The chair is called the Cesca side chair. They probably did have a cain back and seat at one point.
- You don't have to sit on the floor.NoFavorite
- =) Thanks.Josev
- 1981 was the last year that Breuer was alive.Josev
- yet his crimes against mankind continue.airey
- @airey hates Breuer.NoFavorite

Gorgeous Knoll Chairs !
Cane seat and back price 1200 CAD at Gabriel Ross, hang on to those ! Go easy on eighties stuff in the rest of the room, mix high and lowbrow and you'll have a personal style rather than cookie cutter:-)

Most of the stainless steel staples of the 80s were actually designed in the 20s. Anything 80s is going to be cool in about 10-20 years. I'm even starting to look at Post Modernist buildings and think they have some merit.
