Need to upgrade to some monolithic adobe cs4 package today - Now that freehand and flash, ect.. is not part of the adobe conglomerate - do I have a choice?
Is there an alternative to all the adobe apps (ones my clients can use)?

Don't let your clients TOUCH any "creative" software...
- pylon0
Wait.
Why are you trying to get your clients to use this software? What's going on?

Yes, it's a monopoly b/c people want it to be. It would totally suck to have to try and learn multiple programs that do the same thing. Especially when you have to pass files back and forth to diff peeps. Adobe apps are great at what they do. Obviously there are some problems here and there but that's with all software.

The part that worries me about it being a monopoly is, where's the incentive to improve? Can anyone honestly say CS4 is a big leap forward from CS3? In some ways it's worse.
- version30
does anyone know what monopoly means? it' refers to exclusive control or possession of something.
as long as options exist, it's not a monopoly, a monolith maybe

Actually, I think monopoly refers to having *enough* control so that you are in practice the only option...you could argue about whether Adobe fits that description, but how many studios have you worked at where they used Corel Draw or MSFT Expression Studio?:)
- version30
Not to argue, but i go by definitions in books
CorelDraw? 2 studios. i was a beta tester 7-10 currently using X3 and have far more speed and efficiency than anyone i know on illy, i also get contacted to work on corel files as well as the adobe only folk have no idea whats up, that said, i have the cs3 master suite installed too, mainly for opeing and previewing files before importing them into corel

Hmmm, fair enough, maybe I will tell my boss I want to start using Corel...:)
- version30
like i said, since version 7 so i'm biased, but corel has bought me everything i've ever wanted, i just can't hate on it ;)

All I'm sayin is, when most people are starting up a studio or a web business, do they think, what graphics software will we use?
My experience has been no, it's more like, do we want Adobe CS Design Premium, Adobe CS Web Premium, or the Adobe CS Master Collection?
